Casement Window Hardware and Repair

A casement window attaches to the window frame by one or more hinges. The most common configuration of the hinges being at the top and bottom corners of one side of the window sash. If your window is hinged at the top, you have an awning window instead. These are opened or closed with a crank, lever or cam handle usually located at the bottom of the casement window near hand height.

Know Your Casement Window Handing

Do I need a right hand or left hand part?

Many of the parts you may need for your casement window will specify a left or right hand. You can determine this by standing inside and looking out your window. The handing of the part you need is determined by what side of the sash the hinge is on.

So let's say you have a broken casement window operator. Locate the hinge on the sash it is attached to. If you are inside the house and the hinge is on the left side, then you need a left hand operator.
