Cut Grass and Make Big Bucks in the Sun
Equipment Needed
Well, first off, you need a lawn mower! Duh! If you don't have one, then you have a decision to make:
You can rent one for about $40 per day
You can buy a cheap one for about $135
If you rent one, you will probably get a little better quality mower that is self propelled (meaning you don't have to push it) If you decide to buy one, then you will need a place to store it, as well as you will need to work a little harder in order to make a profit... but I know you, and you are really motivated to make this cash job successful, so you are fine investing a little off the bat!
In addition, if you have an edger, weed whacker and blower, take those along too! If not, just stick with the lawn mower. And maybe go read some lawn care tips before heading off to conquer the green world!
Get Some Cash Customers
The best way to get side jobs mowing grass is to load up your rented lawn mower and drive down your own street! Obvious right?
Look for the lawns that have not been cut in quite some time. It's very easy to spot them because the weeds will be grown up taller than the grass. Tall grass is just screaming for a cash job from you!
HINT: These are the people who are tired of mowing their grass (or lazy) and will gladly pay you cash to save them the sweat and time!
I also recommend you make up some fliers to leave on doors if people are not home!
Here is a sample script for when you knock on the door:
"Hi there, I cut grass for folks here in the neighborhood and was wondering if I could save you some time and cut yours today while I'm out here?"
Most times, you will get one of two replies from the prospective customer:
"Not interested," ... and the door slams in your face!
"How much do you charge?" This is called a 'buying signal'
How Much to Charge for Cash Lawn Mowing
If you get the rude guy who slams the door in your face, just shake it off and move on! Just know that you will get that buying signal in soon.
The amount you charge will depend on several things, but the main factor has to do with you. How much money do you NEED to make, and how much is the job worth to you?
For example, I personally enjoy mowing lawns! Call me crazy, but I love grass, so I mow lawns for $15 cash. (8,000 square foot lawn that takes 45 minutes to mow)
Another factor is the neighborhood you are in. If you are in a neighborhood of poor folks, then you may actually be able to get more money for the job! That's right, because less fortunate people are always full of cash in their pockets! They just don't have any in the bank.
The final factor lies in the condition of the grass. If that thing is way overgrown, they need to pay a little more. I'd charge $25 dollars for a really bad lawn. Keep in mind that many cities or towns will fine residents who don't keep their lawns cut.
In addition, if you do have an edger or trimmer, I would add $5 onto the price if they'd like weed whacking done.
Selling Additional Cash Services
The way to maximize your cash is to upsell the prospect. Sure, you can make $15 cutting their grass, but what if after you do a nice job there, you ask them if you can wash their windows for cash or clean their gutters as a side job? Blam! More cash for you!
You can also ask them for their phone number and see if you can make them a regular customer. Usually people will not let you cut every week, but they would be glad to have you come every 3 weeks or so to keep them trimmed up.
Here's a Secret Place to Get Lawn Mowing Accounts
You may not realize this, but trailer parks are great places to earn cash mowing grass. Why?... because most people in trailer parks do have a lawn, albeit a super small one, and secondly, they don't have a lawn mower because they can't store it anywhere and because they don't see the need to buy one for such a small patch.
Looks like there is a need to be filled just like those empty pockets of yours! What are you waiting for? Get out there and earn some cash!

Related Cash Job, Pulling Weeds!
Oh boy, you are really gonna sweat with this one! Don't be Lazy...
Pulling weeds in landscape beds will net you lots of cash for sure! Now, this side job is NOT right for you lazy folks. Nobody said all cash jobs were clean and neat and air-conditioned.But for those of you willing to get out in the heat and sweat a little, this one can earn you a ton of money.
Pulling Weeds for Cash
I think the most important this to nail down with this one is "how much to charge." Afterall, this job is not one that homeowners really look forward to doing. In fact, if you look around your neighborhood, you'll find that almost NOBODY pulls weeds in their flower beds. On top of that, it is hard to find a landscape guy (like a mowing and trimming company) who will pull those weeds either. There just isn't any profit in it for them. You know what we call that? ...Opportunity!
What you should do is charge $20 per hour to pull weeds but you should bid the job ahead of time in full. In other words, after looking over the entire landscape, if you think the job will take 3 hour, then you tell the homeowner you will pull all the weeds in the beds for $60 flat cash.
In that same vein, you need to be able to price the job right so you don't get screwed over! The only advice I can give you here is that grass is much harder to pull than weeds, so if they beds are overrun with grass from the lawn and is creeping in, you should DOUBLE your time!
Another consideration is the edging used in the beds. Some beds are just cut out of the turf and there is no edging to stop the grass from spreading into the beds. If the customer wants the beds sharply defined like new, you are going to need a spade or landscaper's shovel as well.
As always, you will find customers by knocking on doors and leaving fliers. The best neighborhoods to get customers for this odd job are in upper class or wealthy areas. Wealthy people are the laziest when it comes to outdoor labor!...trust me!
This job also makes a great add-on to some of the other cash jobs we've talked about here, such as lawn mowing for cash, cleaning gutters for cash and washing windows for cash.
The best way to keep this one paying off is to get your customers to verbally agree to let you come back in 6 months and do the job again. The key for them is to not let it get away and overgrow, and the key for you is to keep raking in the cash! Are you up for it?
