Playing Poker at a Casino

As a poker player, making the transition from your home poker game to a live casino poker game can be quite exciting.  I have put together some tips that everyone should know when playing poker in a casino.

Casino Etiquette

When playing poker in a casino remember the following:

-Pay attention to the game.
-Don't get drunk.
-When you want to raise it is a good idea to say "raise" before you move your chips.
-Be sure to place your bets or calls over the line so the dealer knows you are playing.
-When buying chips, the dealer is not allowed to take money directly from you. It must be placed on the felt.
-Keep your emotions under control.
-Avoid table talk (encouraging player's decisions in hands that you are not in).

Online Poker and Casinos

If you don't live near a casino...

If you don't live near a casino you can always play poker online. Here are a few of the top online poker rooms and casinos.

Cake Poker
Cake Poker has been around since 2005 and has been growing steady in terms of players. Cake Poker offers plenty of guaranteed prize tournaments despite it's somewhat low traffic. Cake Poker accepts US Players. Play at Cake Poker now!

Nuts Poker
Nuts Poker is another new online poker room that offers great bonuses to new players. Although they don't currently accept US players, there is still some decent traffic at this site. The only drawback to Nuts Poker is that the players are given a pretty long time bank. Other than that I recommend trying Nuts Poker today!

Poker Stars
Poker Stars is the biggest online poker room. You will never have a problem finding a game here (at any level) and they offer a great bonus for new players. You really can't go wrong playing at Poker Stars. US Players Accepted!

Full Tilt
Full Tilt Poker is one of the largest poker rooms on the net today. They have a number of pro poker players playing at any given time. Plenty of players here so no need to worry about not finding some action. Play at Full Tilt today. US Players Accepted.

SportsBook Poker
Sportbook Poker has a lot to offer. We're not just talking about poker here. There are casino games (like blackjack) as well as a sportbook and horse racing. So why not play a few hands of blackjack while waiting on your cards to be dealt at the poker table? The only drawback? Sportbook Poker only accepts US Players. Play at SportsBook now!

32 Vegas Casino
32 Vegas Casino offers a large array of casino games including craps, roulette (3 types), slots, card games (Caribbean Poker, Baccarat, 3 Card Poker and too many more to list). You can play single handed or multi handed blackjack with a live dealer. Yes that is a live dealer with chat.
Best of all, 32 Vegas Casino offers a 320% deposit bonus that is very easy to claim. You just have to wager 15 times your bonus (autoplay on slots anyone?). What are you waiting for? Play at 32 Vegas now.

Types of Poker you will Find at a Casino

Click the Titles for Game Rules and Strategy

Texas Hold Em
A casino would be foolish to not have Texas Hold Em offered in their poker room. This game is usually very crowded depending on the casino you visit. If you are lucky, the casino will have several different limits. This may include limit, pot limit, or no limit. The minimum buy in is usually around $40, but I suggest having a look at your opponents stacks to determine how much you should buy in.

Stud Poker
This game is a hit or miss at a casino. Not every casino offers 7 card stud or any other stud variants. You will be lucky to find a no limit hold em game.

Draw Poker
Another rare find. You all know how to play it. It is usually the first game of poker we learn.

Omaha Poker
Omaha is a really fun variant of poker, especially when you get into the hi-lo games. This form of poker is similar to Texas hold em except you get two cards instead of four. Click here for more info on Omaha poker.

Winning Poker at the Casino

Solid play equals solid pay.

You may find yourself a little intimidated the first time you take a seat at the poker table. The best thing to do is to just sit back, relax, and have fun. Most people are there to make money, but you will find that there are a few players who are there just to play.

In my experiences playing poker at a casino, I have found that solid play is the best way to a winning session. There will always be someone who calls. It isn't like your home game where you feel the need to play every other hand to ensure that no one thinks you only play when you've got something.

Most players at a casino like to gamble, so sit back until you've got a monster... and let them gamble. There may be only 1 or 2 players at the table that realize what you are doing. This is OK because the rest wont have a clue. They will call with their marginal hand just to see some action.

Even when playing nothing but good cards you may get the occasional bad beat, and this is expected. If this happens to you just stand up and walk a lap or two around the poker room. Don't go on "tilt" trying to make up for your loss. Keep playing solid poker and grind out your profits. It is the best way to play at a casino.
