Cats history

The cats history goes way back

The cats history was even involved in a famous battle between the Egyptians and the Persians in 525 B.C. The story is told that the Persian commander stationed cats in his frontline. The Egyptians refused to attack for fear of harming the cats and so lost the battle against the Persians.

The story may be unlikely, but it makes a point about how the Egyptians worshiped and loved the cat. Egyptian art also featured cats in a humorous vein in much the same way as modern greeting cards. Scraps of papyrus and limestone found at ancient Egyptian sites include cartoon style drawings of cats in various unlikely roles. The cats history can also be traced back to ancient Greek times.

The Greeks identified cats with women, and in particular with the goddess Venus as Venus was the goddess of farming as well as fertility, the cats history as represented by Greek art pales in comparison to the amount of cats that are noted in a Egyptian art.

The cats history in Egyptian art sometime shows cats in domestic settings. Example: sitting at the feet of the owner's chair or on a woman's lap or also in the hunting fields, where they were used to flush out to wildfowl for the hunters.

Facts from the cat book

My cat book a work in progress

Cats always maintain their own sense of dignity and reserve, and unlike dogs are not particularly eager to please their owners. It is much more difficult to teach a cat a trick then a dog.

This fact about cats is not because they are less intelligent than dogs, but because they simply do not see the advantages to their personal gain.

If they want to master a particular skill such as figuring out how to operate a door latch to let them in or out of the cold, they will do so because the rewards are of a personal nature. Whether their owner thinks it is cute or clever does not mater to the cat in general.

Cat facts about playing

Playing is of course a different matter, and even quite elderly cats will enjoy a hunting game with a catnip mouse or similar toy. Cats generally use playtime to practice their hunting skills that they were taught as kittens.

This is evident by the way the cat toy is stalked, the quick shake of the prey (or toy) that would brake the neck of a small rodent and then the way toy is pinned down for investigation.

Got a scared cat? Some cats panic every time the smallest change occurs teach your cat to calm down and become less nervous in any situation.

Non pedigree cat vs pedigree cat
Learn what the differences are between a pedigree cat and a non pedigree cat. Find out what kind of cat is best for you.

What is a non pedigree cat?
The definition of a non pedigree cat is if they do not belong to any of the recognized pure breed cat groups. In Britain they are popularly known as moby's and sometimes in the United States, known as Alley cats. In the dog world they would be known as mutts.

Even though these cats are not pure bread they may exhibit characteristics of an established breed. There is nothing to suggest that non pedigree cats are in any way inferior to there more up scale cousins or purebred pedigree cats.

In fact, a non pedigree cat may have the finest characteristics of a particular pedigree animal. Meaning that the best part of these purebreds is contained in a mix known as the domestic non pedigree cat. In many cases, you will find that this domestic cat has fewer health issues, calmer temperament and will make for a better pet.

One of the main reasons for this is that intensive breeding and genetic manipulation of a pedigree cat can cause inherent health problems.

An example of this would be the peak faced Persian. This cat was bred to have a shortened nose and to give a flat faced style. Breeding has resulted in breathing and airway blockage problems for this particular cat. You'll also find that this animal develops tear duct problems and has an improper closing of the jaw, which can create eating difficulties for this animal.

Complex Cat Whiskers

More to the whisker then meets the eye

The cat whisker.

The base of the cat whisker goes three times deeper into the skin than a regular cat hair does. This provides a firm and strong attachment.

The cat's whiskers are embedded into individual fibers capsules attached to their own large receptor muscles. Working together these muscles allow the cat to sweep its whiskers forward to investigate prey or another cat, or pull them back out of the way.

The base of the whiskers has four types of nerve receptors so when the whisker is deflected the cat can accurately feel the degree of pressure. This can help determine wind direction, speed and duration. In particular, the muzzle whiskers are brought into play when a cat is in close contact with small prey. They enable a cat to interpret movement and shape of the prey, and even the direction of the lay of the prey's coat.

So you see that the cat whisker is all knowing and all seeing.

Wikipedia for cats

The cat (Felis catus), also known as the domestic cat or housecat"Housecat" in the American Heritage Dictionary to distinguish it from other felines and felids, is a small carnivorous mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin and household pests. It has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 years and is currently the most popular pet in the world.

A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. It can be trained to obey simple commands. Individual cats have also been known to learn on their own to manipulate simple mechanisms, such as doorknobs and toilet handles.YouTube - Gizmo Flushes Cats use a variety of vocalizations and types of body language for communication, including meowing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling, squeaking, chirping, clicking, and grunting. They are also bred and shown as registered pedigree pets. This hobby is known as cat fancy.

Until recently the cat was commonly believed to have been domesticated in ancient Egypt, where it was a cult animal. A study in 2007 found that the lines of descent of all house cats probably run through as few as five self-domesticating African Wildcats (Felis silvestris lybica) circa 8000 BC, in the Near East. The earliest direct evidence of cat domestication is a kitten that was buried with its owner 9,500 years ago in Cyprus.
