For Your Cat

Making Your New Family Member Feel At Home

When you bring a new cat or kitten home, there are a few things you will need or want to have on hand.
  • Cat Food & Treats
  • Bowls for Food & Water
  • Litter Pan, Scooper & Litter - If kitty will be indoors.
  • Bedding - Oftentimes, however, kitty will choose his or her own sleeping spot.
  • Brush - Even short haired cats can shed, so brushing your cat is highly recommended.
  • Cat Carrier - Most cats don't like to travel, so having a carrier makes going to the vet much easier.
  • Identification - A collar & ID tag or Microchip is very important in case your cat ever gets lost. With proper identification, your kitty can be returned safely home to you.
  • Cat Toys - Not essential, but certainly helps make your kitty feel at home. Cats, even adult cats, love to play with pom-pom balls, toy mice and such.

Preparedness for Your Cats

If you live in an area that is prone to natural disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, brush fires, floods and the like, you will need to take precautions not only for yourself but for your cat as well.

I live in Florida, which sees its share of hurricanes and flooding. Not to mention tornadoes and brush fires. In 2004, we choose to evacuate during Hurricane Frances with our (then) five cats. That was an interesting experience that taught me a few things and led to my penning the following articles. I hope they help you in preparing for your cats in the event of a natural disaster.
