A Cat Heaven for Rescue Kitties

Ranked #323 in Nonprofits, #95,845 overall

The Cats are Purring in a Feline Paradise

It's hard to imagine how anyone could neglect or mistreat a cat. These sensitive and graceful creatures can be so loving and bring so much joy. While it is sad that many of them end up in cat shelters and rescue facilities, the hard-working people who give them that care deserve our respect, especially when they do everything in their power to turn a cat haven into a cat heaven.

The inspiration for this page is a man named Craig Grant who is something of a guardian angel for cats. I believe he has created his very own heaven-on-earth for them. (Oh, by the way, this is not a religious page and I use the terms 'angel' and 'heaven' in a non-religious sense, as indeed many people do. No offence is intended by this.)

So put your best paw forward and let's discover more about the amazing Craig and, of course, explore the sights and sounds of a real-life cat heaven.

Craig and Caboodle Ranch

A Cat Heaven for Rescue Kitties

'Cat Hero' Poster print
'Cat Hero' Poster by CaboodleShop

Some cats are much loved from their first day to their last. And some, well some have all kinds of bad things happen to them, and sorely need a second chance to have the kind of life a cat deserves.

Happily there are many kind souls who work hard to give our feline friends that second chance. The sick, vulnerable and neglected are given comfort and care. Some have the chance of another home too.

Although Craig is just one of these people, he is a remarkable man. A cat owner (or is it the other way round?) by accident, he ended up devoting all of his money and his entire life to feline rescue. These days he has a ranch where his tribe of cats live in what looks to me like a true Cat Heaven.

The cats are given medical care (including all being spayed or neutered), food, and love by Craig and his busy volunteers. His 'babies' clearly adore him, and you can see from the video below or indeed any of his videos just how much he dotes on them too.

Meet Craig and the Caboodles!

Take a Look Around Caboodle Ranch

Here Craig will introduce you to the sanctuary he has created for cats, whether rescued from abuse, feral or homeless, or kitties that simply couldn't be kept by their owners any longer for whatever reason. Craig does all he can to give these cats the best life they can have.

The cats of Caboodle Ranch love taking a walk by moonlight with Craig before having a big drink and then cuddling up with him to sleep.

It makes me smile every time I hear Craig tell the cats to "Put your headlights on!"

And Caboodle Ranch turns your money into food and medicine for all the little Caboodles!

Just to explain one thing. When you buy a product from a website, normally the advertiser (in this case, me) would make a small commission. It didn't seem fair to me to take money in commission from a charity. So I have used Caboodles' own referral code here, not mine, for their official products featured on this page. That way all commission goes straight to their funds.

Caboodle Controversy

Attack on Craig and his cat care efforts

Last year (2010) there was some controversy when a piece of selective journalism 'exposed' Caboodle Ranch as a bad place for kitties.

Sadly, not all animal shelters are kind and healthy environments. Some rescuers try to reach beyond what is possible and end up failing the very animals they sought to help.

However, it beats me how anyone can see all those pictures and videos on the Caboodle site and consider it merely a facade for a place where cats are neglected. Craig has given these cats everything and I don't understand how anyone can doubt for a moment that they receive the best he and his volunteers can provide. But that's journalism for you.

For anyone who feels the need to read more on these issues, here are a couple of links:

This is not, however, the place for debate on these issues. I created this page in support of Craig and his team and the wonderful work that I believe they do.

Good suggestion. I think the way it works is that Caboodle Ranch need to make the request though... so if you are reading, Caboodle Ranch, why not get in touch with Squidoo about being a charity partner!

Sometimes I feel like I'm on my way to becoming a cat sanctuary! A new kitty turned up at my house a couple weeks ago with a hurt paw. Although he was feral, he was very sweet and friendly. Of course I took him in and mended his little foot, but had to keep him separated from my other 5 cats until we could get him neutered and vacinated. So ...I guess it goes without saying that I now have 6 cats. Thanks for such a beautiful, touching lens. I wish there were more people Like Craig.

Awww. It breaks my heart that people can be so cruel to cats. And it breaks my heart wide open to see the love that Craig and Caboodle Ranch give these beautiful cats. I'm at their website right now and I'm incredibly impressed with Craig's care and loving nature.

This is a wonderful lens and a wonderful shelter. I always love reading about Caboodle Ranch. Although my tiny rescue will never be able to help as many cats as Frank does, I'm very proud of our no-kill, cageless shelter and our great team of volunteers. It's the nicest and happiest home some of our cats have ever had. Thanks so much for the beautiful lens.
