Cheers for the Cat Lovers of the World

It's an intriguing fact that there are people who love cats, and people who loathe them, but there is no one who is indifferent to cats! Why is that?

Some people have heaps of cats, somewhat like a hoarder. I've heard of households with twenty and more cats. People do hoard other animals too but, in our modern urban society, it's a lot more difficult to hoard twenty dogs, camels or horses.

Whether it's one cat, or two, or a whole house full, the Cat Lovers of the World are remarkably intelligent and perceptive people, able to appreciate the finer qualities of The Cat. They have a deep insight into the very essence of a cat - into the feline soul.

This is my humble tribute to those special people who make the world a better and safer place for cats like me.

Granny Sage

High Paw to Granny!

Granny Sage
Granny has her mind made up. "In my next life, I want to come back as a cat". And a Cat Lover of her cailbre surely would. Or maybe she will reincarnate as a wolf? At first glance wolves don't appear to have much in common with cats but when you look, as grannysage does, with an open mind, you can clearly see the commonality. Wolves are as handsome and as independent as cats, and they are as often misunderstood.

Granny doesn't quite run free with the pack under the Northern Lights, she is a woman who hobbles after wolves, showing in myriad ways her respect for the wildness of Nature and all living creatures. If I were suddenly forced to leave home, I would sail over the ocean and track down Granny Sage. With her I would be safe.

Granny's Cat

A cat may go to a monastery, but she still remains a cat. Ethiopian proverb

Top Five Signs you may be a Cat Lover

  • You cut your after-work activities short just so you can get home to see your cat

  • You don't dare move a muscle when kitty falls asleep across your legs, even if you need to get up and pee

  • You take your cat's name as your online name

  • When telling a friend about having to take the cat to the V-E-T, you whisper and your eyes dart furtively around the room to make sure your kitty isn't within earshot

  • Your cat eats the most expensive cat food available, while you subsist on macaroni and ramen noodles.

Margaret Brown

High Paw to Margaret!

M Brown, Author
"Cats...the next best thing to humans!" says Margaret, and I say she is almost right. I have always made my feelings on this matter quite clear. Humans are the next best thing to cats.

What I appreciate most about M Brown is her awareness of the hazards that humans (so often unwittingly) place in the way of their domestic pets. We could all be horribly injured or sent across the Rainbow Bridge before our time! That's why you have to know about plants which are poisonous to cats.

An author of childrens' books, this is one special person who makes no secret of her love for animals, and she shares her house with eight cats.

Amanda

High Paw to Amanda!

Amanda BB
Amanda wanted to be a vet when she was small, and also harboured dreams of working in a zoo. Those particular dreams didn't come to life but she may very well have the start of a zoo in her own home.

When she's not putting together her Tutorials for Daz Studio, Amanda is caring for the two cats and two dogs who share her house. Cats have an essential place in her life , ""I love cats because of their independent and yet affectionate and playful nature". Just have a look at them, happy and contented creatures, you can tell.

Nature Girl

High Paw to Yvonne and Al!

Naturegirl7
Nature Girl spends a lot of her time drawing, painting and photographing Nature and the Wild Creatures. It's a little easier for her (and partner Al) than it is for most, she maintains a nine acre private wildlife preserve! You have to give respect to people who devote their energies to protecting Native Flora and Fauna in Lousiana.

Nature Girl (an apt name) has " ...always loved the independence and self sufficiency of cats. Cats choose to be with you and you must earn their loyalty.". I couldn't have phrased it better myself.

Cat Lovers enjoy Health Benefits

Cats keep you in good shape

Cat Lovers know that cats confer significant health benefits. All pets, and specifically cats, are not just companions, we are also healers.

Cats lower stress levels

When Cat Lovers spend a few minutes in petting their cat companion and feeling the vibration of that remarkable purr, they can feel stress lightening right away. A sort of smelling-the-roses encounter of the third kind.

Cats alleviate depression

We can help fight depression too. I saw a study once showing cats had the same positive effect on a person as the presence of a spouse. In other words, why get married when you can get a cat?

All sorts of people appreciate cats

The woman gives 10% of her income - and mine - to continue the work of Fred Hollows in treating avoidable blindness and improving indigenous health.

Photo : Khim Rath, who can now see after a successful cataract operation, Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia.

Blindness is a significant public health issue in Cambodia. Over 160,000 people are blind and an additional 20,000 become blind each year. The main cause of blindness is cataract, which can be treated by a simple 15 minute operation at an average cost of $25 (AUD$35). (That's the price of a crayfish tail).
