I Never Was A Cat Person

Now, don't get me wrong, I always liked cats, but never had a desire to own one because of a bad cat experience as a child. My best friend's cat decided my nose didn't belong on my face and tried to remove it. Quite traumatizing, to say the least.

So, it is quite strange that my last visit to the animal shelter resulted in my adopting of the most adorable little fur-ball of a kitten. What else could I do? She reached her paw out of the cage toward me and mewed the sweetest "take me home" meow. Hence, Missy, became my kitty.

The Animal Shelter

Best Place To Get Pets

Queen of the house

If you are looking for a pet that will become your friend for life, your local animal shelter is the place to go. They won't have papers or pedigrees, but they will be loyal and loving. After all, isn't that what we look for in a pet? Don't we want our pet waiting at the door when we come home from a hard day at work? That's such a great feeling.

Now many of you may think of cats as elusive and aloof. Maybe Missy is one of a kind, but she is waiting at the door everyday when I come home. She meows until I pick her up and stroke her a few thousand times. She is definitely a lover! Although, she has her "queenly" moments, as you can see in the photo.

Missy, My Kitty

Pretty Eyes

This cat has made me a "cat person". I guess it was destiny. From the minute the shelter staff put her in my hands, I knew I had a new best friend. I put her up to my shoulder and she just settled in and cuddled. She was a mere 2 pounds, but purred loud enough to put any 10 pound cat to shame.

Missy is considered a tabby cat. She has medium length hair that is so soft! She never turns away from attention, but is shy of strangers. After you've been in the house for about 15 minutes, she'll come out of hiding and check you out. If you scratch her ears, she'll be a friend. She may even roll over and let you scratch her belly.

I have never seen a cat with eyes like Missy's. They are green around the pupil and yellow around the edges. I was afraid when she was a kitten that they would change as she got older. Thank goodness they didn't. I think they are unique and beautiful.

Catnip

This Is Your Cat On Drugs!

Time for a cat nap!

Catnip is used mostly as a recreational substance for feline enjoyment. While the cat may enjoy it, you will definitely enjoy their antics while under it's influence. Two out of three cats are affected by catnip. The effect usually lasts about 2 hours. It is the smell of the catnip that affects cats. The chemical ingredient, nepatalactone, enters the feline's nose and creates a semi-hallucinogenic effect. Humans have also been known to use catnip for it soothing effects. It has been ingested as tea or juice, used as a poultice, or smoked.

Missy loves her catnip-filled toys. She is quite comical under its influence. After she plays, she is ready for a "cat nap".

Sure, and it's fun to watch them!

You betcha! I usually give it to my Kitty Kisses when she is bored and getting into trouble. She loves knocking what ever happens to be sitting on a surface a couple of feet off the ground... over a hardwood floor. I cringe every time she knocks the wireless pc mouse off the kitchen table, She has her cat nip, has lots of fun, then settles down for a snooze. Works for me. :D

When I had a cat I did. Now, I'm not so sure if I would. The question on if it is safe would be on my mind.

No, it's bad for them!

BuckHawk says:

I have a hard time thinking that a hallucinogenic effect is a good thing for any being. So, I have to go with no.
