Cat Scratch Fever - Give your Cats a place to Scratch
Why is this so important?
Well use your head folks - Cats like to scratch it is something they are born with - the instinct to scratch.Scratching is a territorial instinct by which cats place their mark and establish their turf.
Scratching also serves to keep your cat in shape. The act of scratching stretches and pulls and works the muscles of a cat's front quarters--a cross between a feline gym workout and Kitty Yoga.
So do not punish them for doing it - instead teach them they can scratch, but on things you provide.
I am so against de-clawing cats - that is whole other debate and this is not what this page is about. This page is about cool things you can provide your cat (with claws) to scratch and avoid having your furniture destroyed and your hair ripped out in frustration.
Trimming your Cat's Claws
This is a good thing if you are able to do it. Now like I said I have 6 cats and honestly I do not do this. I have tried and have succeeded when they were kittens, but gave up. They just do not like this, but some may have no trouble at all in doing it.I think if your cat lets you do this - then great - better for you.
My one cat Scar likes to sleep on my head and when he does he likes to knead it with his claws - which feels like a million needles going in my head, but he will not let me trim them. So I deal with the pain - to a point.

So your cat is clawing at your furniture - what do you do now?
Well from experience - those sprays do not work - although I have not tried them all - I never found one that worked.The only thing you can do is try and train them to scratch on the things you provide them. Now I am not gonna say this is easy to do or that they will never scratch where they are not suppose to, but they will start to scratch less on your stuff and more on the new toys.
You may have to try different ones, more than one, have one in every room - whatever it takes. We want to enjoy our cats and not watch them destroy our homes. But like I tell people who say - "Why do you have so many animals?" 6 cats and 3 dogs and fish. Well it is because I am an animal lover. I also know that some things like scratching, pet accidents and fur are all part of the territory. If you do not like these things - then do not own pets. Simple as that.
But we have to teach and train our pets the best that we can, but no pet is perfect all the time.
Ya know there is the old trick of filling a spray bottle with water and when you see your cat's scratch at an area you do not allow then give them a squirt. For me this does not work with all cats - my Maine Coon Fang loves water and is not effected by this at all. TIP: Do not give this to your kids - they find it fun to squirt the cats
What type of Scratcher is best for my Cat?
Answer: Who Knows. You must try them and there are so many styles, sizes, materials and shapes available. It blows my mind how many cool cat toys and things are now available out there. I have added so many things to my Cat's Xmas list just making pages and finding some very cool toys. What a money making industry.Personally what I use are the inexpensive cardboard type - cats love those so much. I also use the Sisal Rope towers.

- This lens is wonderful. The only thing I'd even ask is whether you're familiar with the new Pedicure tool they have out for trimming your pets nails. It's supposed to be much safer and easier to use. Wonder if they'd have an affiliate program for you? This would fit great into this page. Really great work!
