See why I'm called Cat Woman online and offline

I'm known as Cat Woman off-line because I share my home with a bunch of cats; I rescue and foster cats (ferals, FIV positive, abandoned); I work with a local animal non-profit; and I sculpt big cats. Online, I'm known as Cat Woman because of my blog, websites, articles and Squidoo lenses about cats.

Yes, it's Cat WOMAN, if you please, NOT Cat LADY. Whenever I think of cat lady, I think of an 80-yr-old with 37 cats. But when I think of Cat Woman, I think of an empowered person who takes care of cats -- within reason -- and advocates on their behalf and comes to their rescue. No, I don't have a costume (yet).

I said, "within reason," but you might think that a questionable statement when you consider as of this writing (12/31/08) I am living with 17 cats. I have 9 indoor cats, 4 rescued FIV cats in our double-double garage, 3 outside ferals I feed and 1 foster kitten left from a feral mom and litter of 3. The mom is now a barn cat and 2 of the kittens have been neutered and have homes. The last kitten I also may have a forever home for her (she is spayed already)! HOO HOO!

Yes, even I think that's a lot of cats. Funny, 7 didn't seem like too many. But I have to admit that my husband and I have gone overboard. We love every one of them and we have a great family. Having said that, we will NOT be adding any more to our litter. You could say, we're abstaining for the time being. ;-D

I hope YOU can keep my identity straight. For me it's an ongoing struggle because I have so many things I love. So, this Lensography is of my cat stuff including lenses, blogs and websites.

I'm also known as the Bearmeister both On and Off-line. But, that's a story for my Bearmeister Lensography.

I'm a Techno-Cat

Yes, I'm a techno cat to some degree. I am considered the Squidoo expert in my little neck of the woods. I just can't seem to put it down -- well, except when I need a purr-fix! Anyway, this is me around midnight!

AND I Married A Techno-Cat TOO!

Yes, I married a cat lover who is also a techno cat. (We call ourselves the Kangi instead of the Kangases.) In fact, IMO, he is an Internet Marketing Genius. We used to do traditional marketing for small businesses -- newspaper, direct mail, yellow pages, etc. We've moved our business onto the Internet. His lens, How To Take Your Local Business Online includes an on-going e-course.

This is Oran and I bouncing Internet marketing ideas off each other!

I'm An Animal Crime Fighter

China is the worse perpetrator (and Korea) of dog and cat torture and killing in the world. Most people do NOT know the things they do to animals.

Please take 5 minutes and read my lens and make an informed decision to boycott China or not.

I'm A Feral Cat Advocate

How To Save Feral Cats

I am a Feral Cat Advocate. Feral cats have a bum rap. Some people want to kill them simply because they do not live in a home. Humans created the problem of feral cats. They discard cats and dogs like they were pieces of trash. They simply throw them away when they are inconvenienced or lose interest in a puppy or kitten that grows up.

If you want to understand the whole problem and the humane solution, please check out my lens...

I support TRN (Trap, Neuter and Return) Programs and believe that we have a responsibility to the animals of the world -- including feral cats.

For more information on feral cats and the TNR program - reasons for and against, please visit my lens, How To Save Feral Cats And Stop Overpopulation With TNR. Be part of the solution NOT the problem.

Sculptor And Art Lover

I was hooked on sculpture from the day I set eyes on Michelangelo's work at 9-yrs old. I dreamed of someday working in clay and creating pieces like his.

I spent the first half of my life building a business career in Silicon Valley (California). At age of 48, I retired from business, moved to the Fort Bragg (California), and began taking art classes at the College of the Redwoods. My initial training in sculpture gave me the opportunity to work with a variety of media: wood, stone, wire, wax, bronze, cement and clay. I found that working with clay was my true vocation, turning vision into reality.

Working with clay satisfies some deep tactile sense in me. I've found I do my best work when I can include both additive and subtractive modes, which isn't possible with many other media. I like being able to push and pull, pinch and twist -- to manipulate the clay into whatever shape I want at any time I want.

My sculptures incorporate a variety of finishing techniques -- raku, saggar, horsehair, stains and waxes, underglazes, and low-fire and high-fire glazes. Most of my work is stylized animal figures, including lions, bears and "fu dogs" (Chinese temple lions). I also create other abstract sculpture.

In addition to on-going art classes and almost obsessive research, I am studying under the tutelage of an accomplished local sculptor.

I donate 10% of all sculpture sales to the National Wildlife Federation to help save Polar Bears from extinction. I also donates 10% of all Internet sales to Big Cat Rescue to help big cats at their sanctuary in Florida.

Won't you help save big cats?

You can help save big cats by donating to Big Cat Rescue. They are the largest Big Cat Sanctuary in the U.S. They are not only saving cats, but also educating the public and changing laws to protect wild animals.

Devoted to rescuing and housing exotic cats who have been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets, retired from performing acts, or saved from becoming fur coats, and to educating the public about them.

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to Big Cat Rescue from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.

I love that morphing picture in your "Sculptor And Art Lover" module. Now, THAT is cool! And so is this lens. I can relate to all those kitties. My husband and I were once caretakers of a farm (and estate) owned by a doctor and his wife, who rescued just about anything with a tail (or feathers .. and even once or twice animals that should have had tails, but they'd fallen off). There were 36 cats, and, boy, did they live high on the hog. Part of our job was to give each and every one of 'em pats and squishes every day. They were basically grouped in fours or fives, according to personality and whatever other traits the doctor's wife saw fit. They ate gourmet food and had lots of room to play. One actually loved being vacuumed on its belly. Anyhow, just sharing. Great lens!

What a neat lens!! My husband and I are long time cat people / rescuers. We started out feeding and taming feral cats and dumpees with the idea of finding homes for them. But not many of them go elsewhere cause we love them all. Your book is packaged and will be in the mail some day soon. Congrats on winning the Spirit of the season contest.
