Collecting Cat figurines

There is of course eBay but they are leaning away from small sellers and less small old Items are found there, so you must venture to the other sites that have popped up. This site page here has a clickable list of all those sites on Auction Watch.

Also just Google the brand of cat you are looking for. Some companies may still be in business or someone may have it listed on a blog. Google also picks up what is being sold on Craig's list.

You would think that just typing, cat figure into eBay search would be enough, but people don't always use the word figure or figurine. To put just, cat into search would bring up thousands of items including tractors, music, and many other things.

People will list them by description, color, material and/or brand name if there is one.

Many figuring companies didn't put brand names on their work or some that did, used stickers that can fall off. Often you can find ones with what country they are from.
Japan is common on older cat figures.

Some of the cool cat figures from the 50's have whiskers. There are some with gem eyes and cat families where the mother cat is chained up with her kittens.

Here's a pair of music boxes. The base winds, then the porcelain cats turn as the music plays. They are only 3 inches tall. The stickers have fallen off, so I don't know who made them.

These 2 big cat figures I got when I was little at a place called an 88 cent store, it was like a dimestore or like today's dollar store with a pharmacy. Lots of the cat figures out there are from places like that and have no brand name on them, but like these 2 they are quite nice.

One of my favorites, he is about 10 inches long, the biggest one I keep. I found him at a swap meet for $5.

There are some companies that are gone now and some still in business that make great cat figures. They will usually have the name posted on the base or as a gold sticker on the side. Those will usually be listed using those names.

Some makers of figurines are quite expensive and some are affordable. It seem strange that many of the expensive ones are not always realistic, like the blue Copenhagen cats, but even still they have a fine quality look to them.

Amazingly some of the nice realistic ones are more affordable such as Josef Originals and Lefton. I believe it is because of how many were made. Some of the cheap ones were sold in dime stores or 88 cent stores many years ago.

In recent years cat figures are being made of resin or sandicast. I have a few I like, but to me they seem like cheap quality compared to the older porcelain and bone china made ones. But if you are looking for spacific breeds, you will find more of them made of resin.

Besure to look up spacific breeds also. This here is a Turkish Van Cat

Goebel

Goebel also makes those Hummel things. The soft feel of porcelain is the same in their cats, but they add a little blue to the color of the cat.

Royal Doulton

This one maybe more expensive because of name, the detail is not so good, but the quality is nice. Always look for the name on the bottom as there have many copies made.

Lladró Cat And Mouse Figurine

Lladro

Lladro makes lots of figures, all with mostly white, blue and grey tones. Mostly name may make them expensive. Most of their animals are quite nice, but I have not yet put a Lladro cat in my collection.

At first I didn't get any Lenox cats. I had just seen them in magazines and mail flyers for sale and you can't really see the quality. Then I found 2 at a yard sale. These 2 white cats are a little larger than most of figures in my collection, but the quality is so amazing and they have very nice jems around their necks. Certainly a brand to consider for the collection.

Besqwick

This company is well known for their big horses and cattle. The detail and quality is very pleasant. Look up big cats in Beswick if you want to add some of them to your collection. The lion is very nice, but watch out for smaller copies.

Siamese Cat Jeweled Hinged Trinket Box Bejeweled
