Gold:
In two days of panning, we found just over seven pennyweight (there are 20 pennyweight in an ounce) of gold. The gold was high quality: 22 carat (24 carat being pure!), and was valued at around $320. It was purified, melted down and sold to a goldsmith in San Francisco.

A Cat Lover's Guide On Choosing The Perfect Cat Litter
Remember what met your eyes the last time you went shopping for cat litter?
Aisles stacked with scores of different types of litter.
Some of the litter was for old cats, some of it was for kittens.
Some of it was made from clay, others were made with chrystal-looking materials. Oh, did I mention that they all claimed to be the best?
If you have a cat, you know exactly what I am discussing here.
With the countless types of cat litter available, it is little wonder that scores of frustrated cat owners are asking the same question you are asking:
"What type of cat litter should I buy?"
Three Stages of a Cat's Life
Is one type of cat litter better than another type of cat litter?
Do they make a difference? In this article, we will discuss several main points about cat litter, then we will outline a simple way to find the perfect cat litter for your cat.
Specifically, this article will discuss the correct types of cat litter for you to purchase based on the life stage you cat is currently in.
We will discuss the type of litter you should purchase for your cat when he is young, the type of litter you should purchase for your cat when he is middle aged, the type of litter you should purchase for your cat if he is a "senior."
Before we get into that though, let's cover the basics.
Cat Litter, Which One?

Cats, as you no doubt have discovered, are very pesky about their litters. If your cat finds a reason to object to the litter you place in his litter box, he will. A good, simple rule of thumb to abide by is that unless your vet recommends a specific type of cat litter for your cat, simply choose the litter that appears to be the most natural, while making sure it coincides to your cats current life stage.
Cat food is extremely high in protein.
This in turn makes for extremely high levels of ammonia concentration in cat urine. This contributes to the extremely foul and rancid smell typical for cat urine.
Cat litters are created from a large number of different materials. While most cat litters are created from a clay composite, naysayers claim that the clay litter causes dust that over time, can cause respiratory problems later on in your cats life. Environmental conscious cat owners prefer to use recycles paper or wood pellets. While these are good choices for an environmental conscious person, these litters are somewhat more expensive, but break down easier when recycled.
Another popular alternative to cat litter is sawdust.
While sawdust does an effective job of absorbing cat urine, it does nothing to hamper the smell, and may be tracked throughout the house.
However, if you don't have time to clean up your cat's litter box on a daily basis, sawdust is a viable option.
However, most cat owners agree that the best type of cat litter it simply, cat litter.
As we've mentioned already, different types of cat litter will coincide with your cat's life stages, as well as with illness or ailments.
Additionally, cat litter gives you the option to make your litter box smell like pine-trees instead of cat urine...and what pet owner wouldn't go for that?
With that out of the way, let's begin our discussion on cat litters by looking at the options for kittens.
Kittens, Adults, and Seniors
The bladder of a kitten is significantly smaller then the bladder of a grown cat.
For this reason, a kitten will urinate very frequently.
Consequently, when choosing a cat litter for your kitten, pick a cat litter that has a very good rate of absorption.
This will allow for your litter box to last longer between changes, and will help quell unwanted smells.
Another thing to consider when buying cat litter for your kitten is to buy cat litter that doesn't clump.
Interestingly enough, kittens like the taste of cat litter, and will eat it in small amounts. For this reason you should attempt to avoid cat litter that will clump.
If your cat litter clumps, it may clump inside the stomach of your cat, causing severe, and possibly fatal results.
Now let's move onto the needs of a full grown cat.
As your cat is older, he should have grown out of his habit of eating his litter.
For this reason you can stop worrying about it clumping at this point.
This give you a few more options when choosing cat litter.
Though clumping doesn't matter so much at this point for your car, remember that you still don't want to track it around your house!
Now let's move on to the senior cats.
Like people, the health of cats becomes plagued with various medical conditions, including kidney failures and diabetes.
Kidney failures and diabetes will cause your cat to urinate frequently, similar to when they were kittens.
For this reason you will possibly need to switch back to a litter with very good absorption once again.
For older cats, many cat owners turn to Arm and Hammer cat litter, and use the crystal-style litter that will change color, enabling you to easily determine if something is medically wrongs with you cat, such as a kidney failure.
This is a simple way to determine if your cat is in need of a veterinarian visit.
Change of any type can upset your cat, and cat litter is no different.
Cats are creatures of habit and structure, so when changing his litter, introduce him to his new litter gradually by mixing a small amount of his new litter with his old litter. As time progresses, continue to add larger amounts of new litter with his old litter, until he is finally weaned onto the new litter.
Gradually weaning him off his old litter and onto his new litter like this is the best way to "break him in" to his new litter.
So there you have it! Use these simple tips to help you avoid confusion next time you walk down that daunting aisle of cat litter at your local pet store!
