3. A Plan - start thinking the plan you are going to follow when you get to the expansion. Think about the mounts that you want to buy, the new places you are thinking about visiting, the alts you plan on rolling and all that stuff. When you have a proper plan in place, the better chance you will have at succeeding when cataclysm expansion hits on December 7th.

Gaming in an expansion is tough. If you fall behind, the realms get crowded, slow and quests are nearly impossible to finish. If you get too far ahead, it's empty and a little lonely. One of the biggest expenses in a new expansion is the upgrade cost for a profession. It costs a lot of gold to get any crafting profession from 450 to 525 and if you're one of the unlucky few with Blacksmithing or Jewelcrafting, even more gold than everyone else. So, make sure you have enough cash on hand to reach the new cap. Also, get the right farming professions in place to speed it along if at all possible.

New Stuff To Be Introduced In Cataclysm

There's a lot of new things that will be introduced in Cataclysm - from epic flying in Azeroth to new race/class combos to a variety of new ways to play your current classes. This will need to have access to that gold, so plan ahead.

The amount of gold that you need for Cataclysm will really depend on what you hope to get out of the game.

If you want to experience all the new items on offer, the new pieces of gear and the upgrades, then prepare to spend a lot of gold.

If you just want a chance to experience level 85, and enjoy a few raids, then you will not need as much gold.

Having the gold at your disposal will give more freedom to really experience the game, and have more fun with it.

Cataclysm is only weeks away and it is approaching very fast. Players who know better are already preparing for it, because they know that being prepared will give them an unfair advantage over the game.

Achievements - there is a possibility that current achievements might be gotten rid f as soon as the expansion hits. If you have not gotten your loremasters or your exploration achievements, I would suggest that you do that now.
