Child Identification: What Parents/Guardians Should Know
Parents, guardians, and other family members are constantly searching for advice about how to keep children safer. Here are some ideas to keep in mind regarding precautionary child identification and safety measures.
- Photo Identification (ID). Parents should have a current photo or photos of their children. Full face shots in color is what the NCMEC recommends. Pictures should be updated every six months.
- Have a written description of your children on hand. This should include hair color, eye color, weight, height, date of birth, and unique physical characteristics such as body piercings, moles, braces, or glasses.
- Dental records. This is not a prevention strategy but would help in identification should your child be found. Dental X-rays, professional dental charting, and bite impressions (tooth prints) are all useful in making identifications. Parents and guardians should update dental charts every 2 years until children are 18.
- Fingerprints. Fingerprints are used for identification. They should be taken by a trained professional and recorded on a paper stock that will be usable for loading in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Crime Information Center, if your child should become missing.
- DNA. DNA is a key element of what families should have on hand for their children's identification. Like fingerprints and dentition, DNA will not help find a missing child but is used to identify someone. Hair samples or fingernail clippings are useful and easy sources of DNA to obtain and keep stored away.
- Medical reports. Families should know where their children's medical records are located. Medical records such as X-rays, permanent scars, blemishes, birthmarks, or broken bones can be helpful in identifying a recovered child.
- Child Safety Education. It is imperative to teach children about how to be safe, while at the same time boost their confidence and self-esteem. Effective child-safety programs are ones children will enjoy, understand, and ultimately help to change children's behavior. The fundamental idea of prevention education is that children with self-confidence, grounded in safety competence and high self-esteem, are less vulnerable targets for victimization. NCMEC offers many resources to assist parents and guardians.

Definition of Sex Offender
A sex offender is a person who has been criminally charged and convicted of, or has pled guilty to, a sex crime. A crime requiring mandatory sex offender registration can be anywhere from downloading pornographic material of persons under the age of 18 off the internet (child pornography) to rape and even non sexual offenses such as kidnapping, may require registration. The term sexual offender is a broad term, with sexual predator being used to describe a more severe physical or repeat sexual offense. Sexual offenders are also sometimes classified into levels, where the highest level offenders have the most aggravating crimes and thus, the most risk to the public and usually must register as a sex offender for their entire lives. Low level sexual offenders may serve only a probationary sentence and only register for 10 years as well as having less restrictions placed on them compared to higher level offenders. As a label of identity it is used in criminal psychology. Especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, the person, if convicted, is most likely required to register with the respective jurisdiction's sex offender registry.

Predator Defined
The term sexual predator is a descriptive, metaphorical term used to reflect the person who attempts to obtain sexual contact with another person predatory manner. Just as a lion hunts down its prey, the sexual predator hunts down his or her sexual victims. The term sexual predator is also used to describe people who commit sex crimes, such as rape or child sexual incest and abuse.
The term "sexual predator" is often considered distinct from "sex offender". Many U.S. states also see these differences legally. A sexual offender is a person who has offended another sexually. A sexual predator is often used to refer to a person who habitually seeks out sexual situations. A sexual predator may or may not have been convicted of a criminal offense.
Some U.S. states have laws which give a special status for criminals designated as sexually violent predators, which allows these offenders to be held in state run in-custody mental institutions after their sentence is complete if they are considered to be a risk to the public. The first sexually violent predator law in the U.S. was the Community Protection Act of 1990 passed in the state of Washington in 1990. As of 2005, 16 other U.S. states have passed similar laws.

In Vodou, Ma'man Brigit (Grann Brigitte, Manman, Manman Brigit, Manman Brijit) is the mother of cemetaries, the loa of money and death, and the wife of Baron Samedi. She may be related to the "triple" Celtic goddess of poetry, smithcraft, and healing, Brigid/St. Brigit, as her name is Irish in origin, She is usually depicted as a white woman. The first woman's grave in a cemetery in Haiti is dedicated to her. Her colors are black, purple and white, her number is nine, and her particular days of service include Monday and Saturday. Her sacrificial animal is a black chicken. She drinks rum laced with hot peppers - "gaz lakrimojen Ayisyen" (Haitian tear gas), and like her husband and the rest of the Guede Spirits, she is a "potty mouth" and uses profanity. Ma'man Brigit will protect gravestones if they are marked properly with a cross. Ma'man Brigit is known to rub her private parts with hot peppers, and those who appear to be faking possession by her in a Vodou ceremony may be subjected to this test, which they obviously would not pass if their possession is not genuine. She is a very sexual dancer, and her skill in the banda dance is legendary.
Ma'man Brigit is invoked to cure those who are near death as a result of magick.
She may be a sexual loa but she loves children and will do whatever it takes to protect them. She is an ideal loa to invoke for assistance in this area.

Erzulie's personal story is a tragedy. She was a warrioress who fought with her people during the Haitian revolution. However, her own people cut out her tongue so that she would not tell their secrets should she be captured. Thus, she is mute and can only speak a stammering monosyllable, "ke-ke-ke-ke-ke!" This is the sound of her tongue clicking on the roof of her mouth. She is often pictured with her daughter Anais, who serves as her translator and interpreter.
