How and When to Clean
Just like with cleaning your own ears, you can use Q-tips or swabs on the outside of her ear, but never actually try to place one inside the ear canal, as this may only worsen the problem, or actually damage her hearing.

What to Look For
When performing this weekly feline grooming session, you should also be looking for any signs of potential ear problems, such as swelling, foul odor, or just anything unusual, as it could be a warning sign of a potential problem that should be treated promptly. If you cat does come down with an ear infection, you should make certain that you clean her ears before every application of medicine, to make certain there is no dirt or wax build up blocking the ear canal, which might prevent the medicine from getting inside the ear. Cats get ear infections, ear mites, and many other ear problems, all which you can help prevent with proper cat ear care.

- Hey Mogsta
Do you know that cat ear care problems are one thing that many owners ignore. We just think the cat has a nervous tick or itch to scratch as they claw away at their ears. I pursonally use the Pet Alive ear tonic for my babies and highly recommend it. If anyone reading has a problem with cat straining in the litter box your cat may have a feline UTI. Here are more symptoms of cat urinary infections you should check out.
Thanks for your cat ear care help!, Kater

- If your cat has recently been on antibiotics they will be prone to ear infections caused by yeast overgrowth. Yeast is kept in balance by friendly bacteria, antibiotics kill it off and the yeast begins to flourish. Avoid antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, your pets health may never be the same.

- Wow I never actually thought about cats getting ear problems. I only thought of them as being taken to the vet for tick bite problems. You learn something new everyday.

- Hi Jean, one of my cats LOVES me to clean his ears. I use a Q-Tip, not inserting it very far. I try to kind of twirl it against the inside surface, and he purrs. Loves me rubbing at the bases of his ears, too. Health food store ear drops have always worked for bouts of itchy ears/black gukky stuff.
