Big, Bad and Ugly!  The catfish is a great fish to catch! No matter if you are taking a kid fishing with nightcrawlers for Bullhead or Cut or Stink bait for Channel, Blues or Flathead, catfishing is fun!  Not only are these a great fish to catch, they put up a great fight, they are also good to eat as well. Remember to check local reports about the waters you are fishing about suggested amounts you re able to eat.  I fish most of the time in large man made lakes and also in the rivers here in Indiana.  My largest cat to date is a 45# Flathead!  What a rush catching that big boy!  Turned him loose for someone else to enjoy!  Keep the little channels for the table and put the rest back for others to enjoy! Remeber TAKE A KID FISHING!  The Memories will last a lifetime!

Danny Kings Punch Bait!
This is the ultimate bait for Channel Cats. Try the garlic or Blood formula. Both are FANTASTIC! Remember keep the smaller ones 2-5 pounds. They are better eating. Throw the bigger ones back to make more babies!

New Stuff I have found for Catfishin'!

Check out some new stuff here!

Here I am in Indiana. It's December right now and we are having unseasonably warm weather. What better to do than get the Jon Boat out on the St. Joe river and find some flatheads! Water temps are in the upper 40's to low 50's. Finding the fish isn't much of a problem this time of the year! Just look for deep holes 20-25 feet deep and you are almost guaranteed to find some flatheads and even some channels. It may seem weird but I use a balck and grey football head bass jig to jig in these holes. The river here has a strong current this time of the year so i try and anchor on the up stream side of the hole and trow a jig over the hole. Then just drag it through with medium pumps of your rod. Make sure you use a mono line cause braid will freeze on ya if it's cold enough. I like to run across the hole with a depth finder first to see if there is any structure or fish. This time of the year you may see a flathead or channel suspended above the bottom, but often they are laying on teh bottom and it is hard to tell if they are structure of fish. All catfish are oportunistic feeders and even though they might no be hungy, if an easy meal presents itself they aren't going to pas it up. Work these holes like you were bass fishing. Covering every casting direction and piece of cover you can. Try different angles too. With that said, you can try different jigs and some live bait if you can find it or even cut bait may work but I haven't tried it in cold water. I think something moving in front of them is what triggers them to strike. Fish will stack up in these holes in the winter, so it's kinda like shootinn' fish in a barrel. If they are there you will catch them. If you fish a hole for 30 to 45 minutes and don't get bit, find another hole! They are usually easy to catch since you can find them easier this time of the year. Just remember to let the big guys and girls go! Take a picture and release them. I can't keep anything out of this river to eat anyway so I let them all go, but the big ones especially are needed to breed. That big one you landed will be fun for someone else, but it will also carry on those genes to it's ofspring and produce more big fish. Also remember that this time of the year rivers can be dangerous. WEAR A LIFEVEST and BRING SOMEONE with you! Be safe! With rising water always watch out for floating timber and stuff in the water that could capsize your boat. I wouldn't take the kids out this time of the year on the ri
