Cat Saves 9 yr Old From Dangerously Low Blood Sugar Levels
A cat named Mel-O from Morinville, Alberta, saved nine-year old Alex Rose by alerting Alex and his mother to Alex's dangerously low blood sugar levels. On the evening of March 27th, 2006, Mel-O continued to climb a five foot ladder and pounce on Alex's chest. Alex woke up his mother Danielle to tell her of the situation. Danielle, realizing that Mel-O's insistence must mean something, decided to check Alex's blood sugar levels. She found that Alex's blood levels had dropped to a dangerously low level. Thanks to Mel-O, Alex was able to avoid going into diabetic shock.
Mel-O was inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame in 2007.

Cat Saves Girl From Assault
In 2002, Lansing, Mich., a 7-year-old girl's cat saved her from an attempted sexual assault.

Cat Saves Owner From Snake
In April 2008, a street cat named Tammy saved 25-year-old Sagit Feld from a poisonous snake. Sagit, who is pregnant, was feeding Tammy and another stray cat when she noticed the snake. Sagit said the snake was clearly about to bite her when Tammy jumped on it and the two animals began fighting.
Sagit received a cat scratch during the fight and was taken to a local hospital due to the dangers posed to pregnant women by bacteria commonly carried by cats. Tammy was being pampered by grateful members of the Feld family.

Cat Saves Family From Carbon Monoxide
On March 24, 2007, in New Castle, Ind., a gasoline-powered water pump in Eric and CathyKeesling's basement caused carbon monoxide to build up in their home. About 1 a.m., their 14-year-old cat named Winnie began jumping on their bed, nudging Cathy's ear and meowing loudly. "It was a crazy meow, almost like she was screaming," said Cathy, who hesitated to get up until Winnie's caterwauling and jumping persisted.
When she got out of bed she realized she was nauseous and she kept feeling like she was going to faint. Every time she started to pass out, Winnie screamed at her. When she couldn't wake her husband, she called 911 but was unable to speak. The police were able to trace the call and get to the Keesling's residence. Paramedics found the couple's 14-year-old son, Michael, unconscious on the floor near his bedroom. The Keeslings were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and soon recovered.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) named Winnie the "Cat of the Year".

Cat Dails 911
January 3, 2006, Columbus, Ohio. When a police officer responded to a 911 call, he found Gary Rosheisen on the floor near his bed, having fallen out of his wheelchair, and his cat Tommy sitting by the phone.
Police said they received a 911 call from Rosheisen's apartment, but there was no one on the phone so they decided to check things out.
Rosheisen said he couldn't get up because of his painful osteoporosis and ministrokes that affect his balance. He also couldn't reach a cord above his pillow that alerts paramedics that he needs help. He said Tommy must have hit the right buttons to call 911.
Tommy has lived with him for three years. He tried to train him to call 911, unsure if the cat actually got it. The phone in the living room is always on the floor, and there are 12 small buttons, with a speed dial for 911 right above the button for the speaker phone.
"He's my hero," Rosheisen said.

Cat Predicts Epileptic Fits
June 2006. Tee Cee's owner Michael Edmonds, of Sheffield, has complex epilepsy and can suffer seizures without warning. But now he is warned of an impending fit when Tee Cee sits close to him and stares at his face.Michael Edmonds' step-daughter Samantha Laidler said, "My step-father has complex epilepsy as well as other health problems and is unable to go out on his own as he can have seizures without warning. We noticed that Tee Cee began staring at my step-father prior to a seizure and then ran to my mother to let her know all is not well, acting as an early warning system. Once assistance arrives, Tee Cee doesn't leave Michael's side until he regains consciousness and his warnings have proved invaluable to the family."

Cat Saved Her Owner From A Highly Poisonous Snake
On July 27, 2003 a cat named Sosa saved her owner from a highly poisonous snake. Kimberley was working in her garden when she was confronted by an Eastern Cottonmouth. The snake was only inches away and ready to strike. Sosa immediately interceded, lashing out at the snake and protecting Kimberley, but Sosa was bitten in the paw as a result. The Eastern Cottonmouth is not native to Quebec. Had Kimberley been bitten, it might have been fatal because there is no ready supply of serum in the province. Sosa was treated for the snake bite and pulled through after three days in an animal hospital.
Sosa was inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame in 2004.

Cat Saves Owner From Bathtub Death
June 22, 2007. Sylvester the cat is being credited with saving the life of his 90-year-old owner, Patricia Kerr, after she was found stuck in a cold bath at her home.
Sylvester, a ginger, part-Persian stray that Mrs Kerr adopted about five years ago, turned up at her neighbor's door and began miaowing. A visit by the normally antisocial cat was the first sign to Rotorua couple Shirley and Monte Mason that something was wrong with their neighbour.
Mrs Mason tried calling Mrs Kerr but the phone was engaged so she figured Mrs Kerr was okay, and she and her husband left to go to a funeral. When they returned, the retired couple saw Mrs Kerr had not left her rubbish bag out for Mr Mason to put on the street. The couple tried phoning again and again the phone was engaged. By now worried, they went next door and walked around the house, calling out to their neighbour of 20 years. When they got no response, they called the police.
Officers broke into the house and found Mrs Kerr stuck in the bath.
It was not known how long she had been there, but the water had gone cold, she was hypothermic and, according to Rotorua's Daily Post newspaper, was "pretty well gone".
The 90-year-old was taken to Rotorua Hospital, where she remained yesterday, recovering but reluctant to talk about her ordeal. However, the Masons told the Herald that if it had not been for Sylvester and the missing rubbish bag, Mrs Kerr might not have been found alive.

- This is a nice lens about cats who are heroes and how they've helped to save people in their families. Cats like these don't get enough press. :) I've lensrolled this to some of my cat lenses.

- Very nice "lens." I have two male black cats and they are my precious boys. I cried watching the "Tribute to a Hero" video about Gumbo's death. I'm so glad there are other people in this world who appreciate the magic of cats...
