Cats & Enlightenment

All of us that are owned by (a) cat(s) probably know the calming effect of those furry Zen-masters. No matter how hectic we may be, as soon as a cat jumps on our lap and starts to purr, we automatically sit back and relax - at least for a while...

Actually, it's scientifically proven now that the vibration of a cat's purr can speed up the healing process, not only for the cats themselves, but for other animals (including humans), as well. And I have often experienced that cats being in pain, giving birth, or even dying, still were purring...

Btw, the picture on the left shows my friend's cat Lulu, doing her daily sunset meditation.

I always experienced that intuitive compassion of my cats as very soothing... and I never forget the worried expression on a furry face when I was lying in bed crying over a big loss, when that soft paw gently touched my cheek and caused a smile on my face right away...

Maybe cats know more about accepting and letting go... living in the here and now... and meditating themselves off to Nirvana than we do...

And maybe I was a cat in my past nine lives ;-)
