Your Cancer is highly empathetic. If you're ever feeling down,
this is the perfect pet to have. Cancers, no matter if they are busy
exploring (as they sometimes are), can sense a change in your emotional
needs and are quickly at your side. If you are happy, your Cancer will
usually reflect that, too, and enjoy some play time with you. After
all, love isn't only about petting and purring.

Cancers are brilliant animals. They are quick to sense danger
and uneasiness. If the issue is something that they cannot resolve,
they will always come to get you. While they do not often go out on
their own, Cancers are comfortable with ranging about wherever it is
that you have decided to keep them, though they usually prefer the
indoors. Cancers do not hunt much. Also, they should not cause much
trouble with strays; in fact, because your cat is generally
non-aggressive, you shouldn't ever have to worry about fights getting
started. If a Cancer is attacked or feels threatened, it will of course
defend itself and do the same for you (though it is more likely to come
get you), but it won't ever go looking for fights.

All of this apparent maturity comes with a price. Cancers are
loving but touchy. It isn't ever likely that your cat will fly into
fits of rage, but when Cancers become accustomed to a certain amount of
love and care, especially if you haven't had a particular need for your
cat's stability to keep your spirits up, it may reveal a moody side.
Cancers are very clingy. They warm up to other pets and people if you
are there, but if you have a cat-sitter, your cat will be very slow to
let you go. It may even grow irritable toward the person, waiting until
its claws can reach. Cancers will whine or complain if they do not get
their way and sometimes make themselves physically or emotionally ill
over it. You plus love generally restores your cat's naturally tender
temperament, but the same intelligence and caution that your cat shows
when in each other's favor may keep it at paw's length when you first
try to make amends.

Speaking specifically to relationships with other pets,
Cancers will always be a little bit jealous. Pisces and Scorpio offer
the best options for matching them. Usually, they let their irritation
out with the occasional mood swing, but if they ever feel that you pay
significantly more attention to another pet, they may withdraw into
themselves and become increasingly touchier. More than balance, Cancers
need the lion's share of your care-of course, since they are usually
such loving animals, that isn't terribly hard.
