Cats and Dogs

This is a lens about cats and dogs, how the two rivals for the affections of millions of pet owners get on or don't depending upon their circumstances and personalities and some of the silly antics the two can get up to.

Cats and Dogs

Well I guess it had to happen! The creator of that strange dog lens finally coming up with a play on the two rival characters in any good cartoon - cats and dogs!

Dogs is what I'm mainly into these days, but when I was younger our family always had cats, so I've always had pets of one flavour or another. Here in this lens I want to relate some stories from my choldhood memories of the cats that have shared my family as well as mention some of the digs I've also owned and loved.

This should prove to be an interesting combination lens - cats and dogs? You bet!

Cats are from Venus, Dogs are from Mars?

That strange title and play on words is meant as a comical portrayal of the fact that although we treat cats and dogs as our loyal pets, they are two opposite poles of a magnet when it comes to personality!

You see cats are a very independent, very intelligent and can wrap you around their little finger, erm claw!

Whereas dogs are generally more dependent and fiercely loyal to their owners, intelligent in their own right (depending upon breed) and will do pretty much what you tell them to without question.

Dogs

Why are dogs called "Man's best friend?" Why are dogs so faithful to their owners even when some owners are cruel to them?

There are plenty of similar questions about dogs that people would love to get straight answers to and there actually are some straight answers that can be provided.

To answer most of them yourself, all you need to be aware of is the fact that dogs are instinctively pack animals and it is that strong bond a dog has with its adopted human "pack" that endears them so much to us.

...more to follow...

Cats

What is it about cats that endear their owners to them so completely?

Well, for starters, a cat is a great companion esoecially for a single person who may live in an apartment where to keep a dog would be impractical. A cat is very independent and is just as happy sneaking off into the night to find other cats and maybe get up to no good as it is purring around your feet when it wants your attention.

At the same time, a cat can also be a very affectionate pet that will come and sleep on your lap while you're curled up in front of the TV. They'll wrap themselves around your legs and purr softly (especially while they're waiting for you to open the can of cat food!).
