Cat Skin Condition-What to Do When Fluffy is Miserable

Allergies are nasty for people not to mention for your pet. The skin is the largest organ on your cat's body. Taking care of your cat's coat regularly makes it easy to look for lice, ticks and fleas. Looking at a cat skin condition can give you clues as to the problem.

If it appears that your cat seems to be shedding to much, the problem may be ringworm, mange or allergies. Most of the time, allergies are the culprit. Just like people, allergies in pets can be caused by a number of things.

There are three main classes of allergens. They are food, fleas and environment. Some of the signs of allergies are paw and anal licking, excessive scratching, shedding and dandruff.

Soothe the Itch

Natural remedies for a cat skin condition can be made from items you may already have in your pantry or can pick up at your local store. Best of all, they are effective.
1. Oatmeal Shampoo -Shampoo your cat in cool water to soothe the itching. Leave the shampoo on for about 10 minutes. Make sure you rinse well. If the allergies are very severe, you may have to bathe your cat twice a week.

2. Calendula ointment or salve-Check your local health food store. Calendula helps to relieve the itch. A thin coat of the Calendula should be applied to the area twice a day.

3. Supplements- Omega 3 fatty acids help to decrease inflammation. Sources of Omega 3 are primrose oil and fish oil.
