- Cats can communicate. I have had cats my entire life and there is no doubt in my mind that they communicate. We as humans do not always understand the message, but come to think of it, we have that problem with other humans as well. LOL

- For 14 years I was blessed to have the most unique, perceptive, communicative and loyal cat ever. Her name was Woozie. In all those years I never heard her 'meow' like most cats do. She did however grunt in various tones. She was a indoor and outdoor kind of cat who knew the sound of my car who would greet me when I came home. If I had guests she would 'introduce' herself to each one by a little leg rub then sit down in front of and look directly at that guest. After being recognized with a "Hi Woozie" she would grunt back as if saying "hello" move on to the next and do the same until everyone had said "hello". She chased dogs, loved car rides, knew her name and came if called. Anyone else have a cat that never 'meow'ed and just grunted?

- Thanks for your lens. We are lucky enough to have 4 cats - 1 Siamese Birman cross; 2 Siamese; and 1 Balinese. They are all big talkers and love telling us exactly what they want but think we are stupid as we don't always understand what they mean.

- Our cats are some of the most communicative and talkative cats I have had the pleasure of interacting with! I love to see that you too understand what I am talking about. Love your lens -- if I had them there wings, you'd be blessed! ;) It's the thought that counts after all.

- I have had cats and dogs all my life. Mikey was a very large gray Siamese that we had the whole time we were growing up. He lived to be about 18 as best we could tell. Grandma was never sure how old he was when she got him. He was very vocal and let you know exactly what he wanted and could open doorknobs.
Every cat I have ever had has their own personality.
Zoe is my current kitty. My husband got her for me from a rescue group a few years ago as a valentine gift. He picked her because she had the same name as our niece. She was 6 years old at the time and had been with them all her life. We are her first real family. She spends her time sleeping on my small desk while I am on the computer. I have to work around her but that's OK.

- Great lens! We had a cat at home when I was growing up called YOYO.........an orange tabby. He lived to be about 17.
My next cat was Boots. He lived to until 15, and spent the last couple of years of his life entertaining my Dad.
Now I have Indy. I was catless for five years, but then finally said I have to have a cat. She is a sweetie.

- The ship's cat, Sweetie Pie, was a 3-month-old kitten being picked on by other cats in a resort where we ran the bar/restaurant for a while and we were persuaded to move him onto our schooner in September 2006, after a local lady had taken him to the vet to be neutered and have his inoculations. He's been happily aboard ever since and has quite a vocabulary which, as you say, is quite specific to his wants and needs.
Nice article! Thanks for a pleasant while spent on this Lens :-)

- Awww! These cats are lovely and sweet. We have four cats at home plus a newly adopted one. I enjoyed spending the whole day squidooing while they are on my lap and playing around. They're a good communicators too and I have always a soft spot for them. Terrific lens! :)

- Jane and I both love cats. So does our dog Ben but I think it might be from a different perspective.
We had 2 cats before Ben - Slyvester and Ashey. Sylvester loved to sleep with me and would ask me to when he was ready to go for a snooze. Once play boxing with Ashey, she slapped me with on of her paws to tell me to stop (no claws out) - it was hilarious !!!
After having Ben now for 6 years or so - we are not sure of his perspective on cats. He chases them but we are not sure if he wants to rough-house with them or eat them. Hence no cats at the moment.

- Most of our cats have been raised by hand (by me) when they were orphaned after their mother(s) died. I've created a lens of Raising Orphan Kittens.

- I have four cats. Two were adopted from the shelter as adults, one came from the grocery store (a little boy was trying to find homes for a litter), and the last one showed up on our doorstep starving and abandoned. They are all calicos and each speaks to us in different ways.
Some are more vocal than others about their wants. Sophie learned how to ring the bell I hung on the back door for Maggi, our Pembroke Welsh Corgi. So, now when I hear the bell ring, I don't know if it's because Maggi needs to go outside to do her business or Sophie wants out to play. They are the only two out of our six pets to master the bell tool.
Great lens.
Warmly,
Theresa

- A lovely Lens! :)
I adore cats, they are my favourite animal. I have had many over the years. At present I have 2 British Short Hairs, brother and sister. One Tortoishell, and one Blue. The Tortoishell one says "Mum".
It happens if I shut her out of my room at night, and she will keep on saying it until I let her in. - How could I not?
All their different Meows have a meaning! :)
I just love Siamese cats because they are 'so' vocal.
A great lens! Favourite, 5 star, and lensrolled to mine. :)
Warm Wishes
Christianna.

- I have 2 cats now. Bark (like a dog) and TC (TeaCup). They are great communicators as were the two cats before, both lived long lives. Among other things, they let me know when my house was being broken into and when the first floor of my house flooded. Thanks for an enjoyable lens. 5*

- Many years ago, adopted a deaf white, blue eyed kitten from a shelter! Lynda was the love of our lives..and we learned to communicate with her in a different way. A story about her was published in AMVAs website about her.

- What a fantastic lens. Of course cats talk to you, one way or another they are experts at communication ;0)
You are right that it is usual for cats to be indoor/outdoor in the UK. We still value them though, it's just that we think they enjoy the outdoors - not always a good thing when you live in an urban area as I've found out to my cost. 5 stars and favorited.

- Nice lens! I'm in the UK, and my brother had two tabbies; one was a 'house-cat' and his sister was always out, leaving various 'presents' (birds, mice etc) around the house on her return! I built a lens on talking cats as a bit of fun - after reading this lens, maybe I should take their communications more seriously! :)

- My Kaylynn deffinately talks. She says one word very clearly and well. It's her favorite I think. She loves to say "NO!!!" I can ask her a question, lift her up and hold her out towards another person, and she will yell "NO!" at the top of her lungs.

- Of course cats can talk! Samhain has plenty to say on this subject, but I'm not sure if you're taking links, so just rest assured -- if you ever want a cat soliloquy on the subject, email me, and I'll ask her the question with the mike on and see if I can catch her reply. :) (I'll add this to her lens, shall I? Sorry I missed your reply before!)

- I love my cats, even if we do occasionally have a communication problem. Dandy speaks in syllables, sometimes several in a row, and he calls his sister by saying "oh-yo-wah-yoo" when he can't find her (Oreo, where are you?). It's true! (Nice lens!)
