Feline Felicity - Second Lick of Trivia

  • Bastet was ab Egyptian cat goddess with the body of a woman and the head of a cat. She was the goddess of love and fertility.

  • All cats are digitigrade which means they walk on their toes with the back part of the foot raised. But not all cats have retractile claws. The Cheetah is the only cat, including all the other large cats, with this distinction.

  • Egyptians not only worshipped the cat but they also used it for hunting including retrieving birds. Who knew that cats were trained to retrieve birds brought down by their masters?

  • The Manx, Cymric, and Sphynx breeds are all lacking something, what is it? The Sphynx is a hairless cat while the Manx and Cymric are shorthaired and longhaired cats without tails.

All I Need to Know I Learned From My Cat (And Then Some)

Double-Platinum Collector's Edition

In the years since we first published All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat , with over 2 million copies in print and the fastest-selling book in Workman's history, one thing hasn't changed-people are still starved for wisdom. Few oracles have dispensed as much common-sense truth as Binky, Suzy Becker's cat. "It's O.K. to wear the same thing every day." "Know all the sunny places." "Flaunt your hair loss." "Get mad when you're stepped on." Life lessons such as these and dozens of others propelled the book like a champagne cork to the top of The New York Times bestseller list.

Now, to celebrate the book's double-platinum milestone, there's a new edition: the original book, in a fresh cover, plus 48 new pages, including the Are You a Cat Person? quiz. The cat, Binky, is perspicacious and profound; the artist, Suzy, is utterly delightful; and the combined effect is one of immense and irresistible charm. Every cat fancier will recognize the book's timeless take on grooming, health, relationships, boundaries, and, above all, how to live in the moment. With new entries like "Be good at hellos. Don't drag out goodbyes," "Don't think too far beyond your next meal," "Celebrate the days you can open the windows," and "First one in has to warm up the bed," these teachings may very possibly change your life. Or at least let you know that there's always time for a nap.

Feline Felicity - Third Lick of Trivia

  • The scientific classification of the domestic cat is Felis catus. Acinonyx jubatus is the cheetah and Panthera leo is the lion.

  • Did you know that cats do not have the ability to taste sweet things?

  • Two pigments form the basis for all coat colors in the modern domestic cat. These two pigments may be combined with each other or with white (the absence of pigment). Those colors are Black and orange. Scientists believe the domestic cat's original coat color was probably greyish-brown with darker tabby stripes, a color that provides excellent camouflage in a variety of environments. All other coat colors are the result of genetic mutations.

  • Cats have 100 vocal sounds while most dogs have only about 10.

  • When a famous cartoon Cat and Mouse made their debut in 1939, the Cat's name was Jasper. In later cartoons, they would become Tom and Jerry, but in Puss Gets the Boot, the feline co-star was named Jasper.

The Devious Book for Cats

A Parody

Cats have nine lives. Shouldn't they be lived to the fullest?

"Domesticated" does not mean "docile." The ho-hum routine of sleep, eat, eat, and sleep is no way for any creature who ruled Egypt for a millennium to spend her day. It's high time felines everywhere woke up from their cat naps and grabbed life's strings with both paws.

The Devious Book for Cats offers today's discerning kitties words of wisdom and advice on everything they need to know, from in-depth guides on cardboard boxes and catnip to a brief history of the Felinism movement. It provides fail-safe tips on waking a human when you want to get fed, choosing the purr-fect gift, staring like a pro, and making the most of superstitions. It also explains the undeniable allure of the Window, the terrifying specter of the Vacuum, and how you can groom properly in just the scant twenty-four hours allotted each day.

Cats: Discover the devious fun you can have when you're the one in charge!
