It is not easy to identify what causes fatigue. I have suffered constant fatigue for around 5 years. I have had many tests, hospital appointments, I have searched for answers online, in books and through other peoples stories. I also suffer from Chronic Pain, so the 2 together is a disaster, as you can imagine. It is only through research and finding out the underlying reasons for my fatigue, and through acknowleding the relationship between stress and fatigue identifying the causes of my fatigue and symtoms that make me feel so tired, that I have been able to ask for the appropriate help from the medical team. Yes you read right I had to ask for help with my chronic fatigue

What is Chronic Fatigue

Why am I always so tired

Chronic fatigue - me- why am i always tiredChronic fatigue, CFS is also known as ME, myalgic encephalomyelitis. M=Myalgia means muscle pain and E=encephalomyelitis means inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.
Chronic Fatigue is something that does not go away even with rest and sleep. Many describe it as living in a constant fog, and become frustrated as many doctors do not appear to accept the debilitating effects of chronic Fatigue, and suffers can indeed suffer before receiving diagnosis or receiving proper advice.
As yet there is no cure for Chronic Fatigue, but there are ways to manage the condition. I have spent nearly 5 years, trying to find a way to live with extreme tiredness. and although I am still tired I have found ways to manage my fatigue, and recognized trigger points, and now have techniques I use to help me through the day.

Fatigue is mental as well as physical. most will describe the tiredness as overwhelming.
  • It is a different type of tiredness from what you have experienced before.

  • After sleeping you do not feel refreshed.

  • It is not due to exhaustion.

  • It is not just a loss of motivation.

these symtoms are most common in people who suffer Chronic fatigue. and I have indeed at different times suffered these.
- muscular pain, joint pain and severe headaches
- poor short-term memory and concentration
- difficulty organising your thoughts and finding the right words
- painful lymph nodes
- stomach pain and other problems, such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and nausea
- sore throat
- sleeping problems, such as not sleeping wven though tried, and disturbed sleep
- sensitivity or intolerance to light, loud noise, alcohol and certain foods
- psychological difficulties, such as depression, irritability and panic attacks

- less common symptoms, such as dizziness, excess sweating, balance problems and difficulty controlling body temperature

I am fortunate to attend a pain management Clinic, and I am given lots of advice and support from the NHS

Information on Disability and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I found that chronic fatigue was not widely recognised as a disability, I was applying for benefits and refused and also I had a compensation claim with my previous employer and chronic fatigue was one of the main problems I was facing, I found I had to challenge the medical and professional team. When I was researching Chronic fatigue and trying to get a diagnosis, I found this book extremely helpful, especially as I had found it so hard when applying for benefits, and finding that they did not recognise Chronic Fatique as a disability. This give good solid information from medical and personal perspectives and easy to understand. I had never heard of the Revese therapy approach, so when I started to see sales of this book, through another aritcle, I researched it and it is indeed popular. M.E., Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia - The Reverse Therapy Approach I wanted to investigate it. I think as with everything for something to, work and to help you , you need to buy into it. If your initail reaction is load of codswallop, then skip unitil you find something that you go "ah-ha, yes I see how this can help me"

My personal tips about how to cope with Chronic Fatigue

It was all too easy to reach for the painkillers, but they did indeed make me even more tired. I have battled with painkiller addiction, and the doctors freely gave these to mel. But it is no life, when you are already exhausted and medicated. I have succeeded in halving my painkiller intake, and replacing with alternative therapies. These are really simple

Pacing seems so dumb, but WORKS. It took me ages to see the benefit in this, breaking my day into hourly blocks, but you can tweak your plan to suit yourself.

Set a Goal (no matter how small)
It must be soething you want to do. I wanted to go horse riding, skiing, and thought it pathetic I had to make a plan on just getting up out of bed for half an hour. But instead of focusing on the small goals, I set myself a bigger goal, something I had never done before, but always wanted to do, read my award winning story about Why I write on Squidoo. When I found a reason to aim for I "managed" all the little steps towards managing my condition better.

Find out about alternative medicines. I love Hypnotherapy, and have the beautiful Tibetan Healing SoundsChronic fatigue- CFS-why am i so tired on my iPod, so when I am resting but cannot sleep, I drift away into my own little world.

Accupunture or a TENS machine, yes I love this, and it works for me

My chronic Fatigue Survival kit

These are the things I never had before but now use in my ongoing battle against Chronic Fatigue, and keeping the overwhelming tiredness at bay. these are alternatives to medication. I kid you not, the meditation music is so soothing, if you can even just lay down and listen to the sounds, I use the netbook whilst in bed resting, and the TENS machine has helped me in beating my addiction to prescription painkillers. and my microwaveable heat packs to help those muscel packs.
