CBT Banbury
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a very practical aspect of psychotherapy and focuses on the "here and now" rather than looking in the past for the cause of your concern as do other "talking therapies". CBT is very helpful in combatting panic attacks, anxiety and depression and addressing low self esteem and low self confidence issues.
CBT aims to align more positively the way that you think (Cognitive) about yourself and the world around you and consequently affect the way that you behave (Behavioural) towards yourself and others, thereby leading to a more acceptable way of your experiencing life (Therapy).
Here at The Paloma Centre in Banbury we use this highly practical therapy both as a stand-alone therapy and in conjunction with other therapies and techniques such as Counselling, Hypnotherapy, NLP and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to provide a more holistic approach to your concerns. This often leads into a period of Life Coaching to embed the practises in your behaviour such that it becomes a quite natural way of achieving more in life.
Keeping abreast of developments in therapy we have recently added a further range of  Meridian Energy Therapies to the Practice and new developments in CBT with particular reference to Stress Management and Reduction and Depression called Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.

How CBT works
CBT aims to break the vicious circle of habitual negative thinking (or jumping to conclusions) which resultantly improves our emotive responses and which in turn leads to a more positive mental attitude, outlook and lifestyle. CBT provides you with a new, more constructive way of thinking about your concerns which also makes you self sufficient in dealing with them.
CBT has been found to be particularly helpful with:
Anxiety
Depression
Panic attacks
Agoraphobia and other phobias
Eating disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
The NHS has recently announced an interest in using CBT more extensively for the treatment of Anxiety and Depression in particular. Hitherto these conditions would have been dealt with primarily through the use of pharmaceuticals such as anti-depressants alone.
UKCP training requirements ensure that registered therapists are familiar and practised with the theories, processes and techniques of this highly effective therapy and we use this practical methodology extensively in day to day practise.

Thank you very much David for your reply.
EFT? just done a quick search, is that Emotional Freedom Techniques?
I can see the logic behind removing the emotional aspect, by doing so, it creates a clearer canvas, letting you focus on the problems at hand without so many things interfering.

Hello Robert,
Thanks for the thoughts, most appreciated. The answer to your question depends upon the the state of your friend. I find that CBT is helpless in the face of overwhelming emotional states - that is not a popular view and most CBT therapists would not agree with that. However in practical terms I find it very useful to clear the emotional aspect away first with a therapy such as EFT which then leaves the mind clear to apply logic free from the blinding cloud of emotion and progress is more rapid. Hope that helps, will have a look at your lenses. Best wishes.

Hello David, nice lens, some useful info and contact details for UK anxiety sufferers.
I have just discovered my friend has social anxiety disorder, for years I thought he was just quiet and shy, I now know it is so much more than that.
Would you say CBT is a good starting point for a severe social anxiety sufferer to begin to overcome his anxieties? or hypnotherapy? or other?
I have added this lens as a featured lens on my
Overcoming Social Anxiety Disorder lens. I have also written about social anxiety and what it is like living with my friend on my
