Not another CD Packaging designer Get more creative with your Designs.

So after designing your 25 CD packaging artwork, you get another call from a client talking about (guess what?) another CD packaging project. Wow! You're becoming an expert on this and it's great because you've already found your niche and established a good reputation. It's just that%u2026well, it's just that your well is now dry and you're having the same kinds of ideas.
Here are some things you can do to get more creative with your next CD packaging project.
First, take a day-off. Working long hours in front of your computer could strain you physically and mentally. Take a break. You're doing something creative and you will not have bright ideas if you won't make time to smell the roses. Step out of that computer and live a little.
Browse thousands of CD artworks. Go to your nearest bookstore and look for books about album art. If you don't want to go through such trouble and spend a few bucks, then you can just browse CD artworks online. Check out artwork related to your project from the simplest to the most elaborate designs.
Identify artwork clichés per genre. So metal bands should have something metallic in their artwork and the colors are always dark. So indie pop acts should have artwork that looks like a cheap random photo from something that's not related to the band or music. Try to identify which clichés should stay and which ones are not that cute or way overused. Pick the ones you want to include in your artwork and pick em wisely.
Don't be a "Yes Man". Make a version that's purely your idea and show it to the client. Sometimes, some graphic designers get intimidated by the clients and they instantly become a "yes man". They say yes to everything the client wants even if deep in their hearts they think the concept is crap. Never be too scared to tell them your ideas because it's supposed to be a collaborative work and you're the expert. They need your advice.
Suggest you make 'limited edition' packaging. You are only limited to the visual side of art when you do CD covers. If you want to show your creativity through constructing art materials, then make customized CD packaging. You can make die-cut CD boxes, paper cut-outs, and lots more. Take note that although this is (one of) the most enjoyable kind of CD Packaging project, it is quite costly and would require lots of research and hard work. But hey, you wanted to get out of the rut and make something really creative, right? Enjoy!
Work on two different kinds of projects at the same time. Sometimes it helps if you are designing a tee (for another client of course) and a CD packaging at the same time so you won't get burned out dealing with just one concept for days. Stepping out of an idea, "forgetting' it and entering another idea will give you a somewhat fresher perspective. This makes some more efficient creative-wise.
