Cecil John Rhodes Born 1853 Died 1902 Founder of DeBeers Mining Company, Rhodesia and a Member of the Cape Parliment
A great englishman whose drive, determination, will to win and sheer ambition led to the founding of the debeers mining company is one of the greatest englishman ever to live. Born during the reign of Queen Victoria, rhodes was a great believer in imperalism and founded the colony of Rhodesia, later renamed Southern and Northern Rhodesia and latterly Zambia and Zimbabwe. His achievements are boundless and although in this day and age his ideals and thoughts would be frowned upon (to say the least!), put into the context of his time he was and is a behemoth of his time. In my humble opinion, his name should be up there alongside the likes of Charles Babbage, Winston Churchill, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and other notable englishmen.
Three reasons to love Cecil John Rhodes
Quotes from the great man himself
''I have found out one thing and that is, if you have an idea, and it is a good idea, if you only stick to it you will come out all right.''
''Remember that you are an Englishman, and have consequently won first prize in the lottery of life.''
''So little done, so much to do.''
