Cecilia, You're Breaking Some Hearts!
There were, indeed, covers of Cecilia recorded, however. Joe Dassin recorded a French version, to which you can listen below, and Martin Mann recorded the song in German. The New Wave Band (later to be called 10cc) covered Cecilia in 1970, and Times Two did a pop-infused, bouncy cover version released in 1988. A cappella groups The King's Singers and Tonic Sol-Fa both covered the song, as well. None of these covers appeared on Top 100 charts.
In 1995, along came Suggs, the lead singer for Madenss, and his first solo album "The Lone Ranger". Suggs introduced a whole new generation to the fickle Cecilia. His cover version of Cecilia hit #4 in the UK in 1996. Famed reggae producers Sly & Robbie worked with Suggs on this hip-hop influenced version. In my opinion, none of the covers can touch the original, however.
Paul Simon's Lyrics for Cecilia
Direct from His Web Site (the Picture, Too!)
Cecilia, you're breaking my heart,You're shaking my confidence daily.
Oh Cecilia, I'm down on my knees,
I'm begging you please to come home.
Come on home
Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia
Up in my bedroom,
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed,
someone's taken my place.
Cecilia, you're breaking my heart,
You're shaking my confidence daily.
Oh Cecilia, I'm down on my knees,
I'm begging you please to come home.
Jubilation,
She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I laughing
Jubilation,
She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I laughing.

Considering that you get The Boxer, So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright, Baby Driver, and a cover version of Bye, Bye Love on this album, it shouldn't come as a surprise that it won six Grammy awards for Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Cecilia was only one of the dozen amazing songs on this, the last Simon and Garfunkel studio album.

- Wow! Local Natives' version is great, the other covers I find pretty much useless... But I am a S&G fan anyway, and in fact, Cecilia is my earliest memory of a S&G song I especially liked.. Many thanks for this nice lens!

- There was a version of Cecilia that came out in the 80's that was brilliant! I cannot seem to find it anywhere, greatly due to the fact that I don't know who the artists were. It had a keyboard type, electric sound with the sound of shattering glass in the background at some stage, similar to zig-zig sputnik's music. Does anyone know who did tis cover version?
