Celebrate Autumn - Simple Pleasures to Treasure the Season

    "Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."
    ~Stanley Horowitz
Autumn is synonymous with the harvest, crisp air, falling leaves, geese flying overhead, pumpkins, bonfires, football games, and apple cider. It's the season during which we celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving. George Eliot once said that if she were a bird she would fly around the world seeking the successive autumns. For many, autumn is their favorite season of the year.

Here's a bounty of ideas to help you enjoy and celebrate the season. Have a joyous autumn!

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower."
~Albert Camus”

Ten Ideas to Celebrate Autumn

1. Take time to witness the leaves turning brilliant colors -notice the golds, russets, and browns.

2. Jump into a pile of freshly-raked leaves.

3. Go for a walk and take in the clean, crisp autumn air.

4. Buy roasted chestnuts from a street vendor.

5. Wear a funky hat. Chase it when the wind blows it off your head.

6. Enjoy the sound of leaves crinkling and crackling underneath your shoes.

7. Make sticky toffee apples for some tasty treats.

8. Collect golden autumn leaves and use them to decorate your dinner table, windowsills, or any other surface you choose.

9. Buy a horn of plenty-a woven horned basket-and fill it with autumn produce such as apples, pears, potatoes, and wheat.

10. Start an impromptu football game.

In addition to your "official" bucket list, which probably includes items such as "run a marathon" and "swim with manatees", you can create bucket lists for each season. These seasonal bucket lists should include simple ways to celebrate and enjoy the season.

Since autumn is just around the corner, I'll help you get started with your seasonal bucket lists by giving you 40 ideas for fun things to do in the fall which you can include in your Autumn Bucket List.
This Damn Beautiful Autumn - Fall in Photographs
You could easily argue that autumn is the most beautiful season of the year. Leaves turn to yellow, orange, and bright shades of crimson. They fall like a shower from the trees, giving us a way to watch the wind dance. They paint the landscape with a blanket of color. Don't believe me? Take a look at these fall photos and tell me if you've ever seen more beautiful sights.

"It was one of those perfect English autumn days which occur more frequently in memory than in life."

~ P.D. James.

October's Party

"October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band."

~George Cooper

Set an elegant harvest table of Thanksgiving. Make a classic Thanksgiving meal. Remember to go around the table and have each person give thanks for at least one blessing they've received this year.

Watch "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving", in which Charlie Brown hosts a Thanksgiving meal in which he serves each of his friends the following:

* Two slices of buttered toast,
* Some pretzel sticks,
* A handful of popcorn, and
* A few jelly beans.
