Celebrate EVERY day!! (An inspirational Lensography)

My brother and I were 3 years apart. Our parents divorced when he was 8 and I was 11. We hung out together all through High School. We were in the Marching Band together and I dated his best friend. I look back now and wonder where the time went.

My daughter, Kaitlyn is now 13. She was the first niece/grandchild on our side so she was somewhat spoiled. She was Uncle Bob's Pride and Joy. He was her Godfather and Confirmation sponser. By the time my son was born (Liam, age 7), our lives were much "busier" and we didn't get together as much as we used to. Looking back on things, I don't know if our lives were busier, or we were just busying ourselves. Bob put 110% into his work and could be considered a work-a-holic.

My brother had chronic back pain for 5 years, having multiple surgeries to try and correct the pain. He would take enough pain pills and injections to put me flat on my face. He worked through the pain, though. Whenever he did see the kids, he never complained about the pain and played with them. He would get on the floor and wrestle. He loved kids, and my kids loved him.

It was the morning of July 5, that we found out Bob had mixed pain meds and had an anoxic brain injury. I couldn't remember the last time I had seen him...later I would realize it was almost four months on Easter. I had been the last one to talk to my brother, and had "razzed" him for not coming to see the kids as he had promised.

Not only do I regret razzing him so much, but I regret that I allowed other "things" to "busy" me instead of making it a PRIORITY to visit him.
