Celebrate Popcorn Day
How do you celebrate Popcorn Day? You make and eat popcorn or course! There are many different ways to make popcorn. You can use microwave popcorn which comes ready packaged in paper bags to pop in the microwave, air-poppers to make healthy popcorn with no oils, stove-top popcorn poppers, and electric popcorn poppers. We prefer our air-popper so that we can make the healthiest version with the least calories. Of course, the kids like me to add oil and salt to their after it is popped. At our house, every day could be Popcorn Day! We love our Presto Orville Air Popper!

The history of Popcorn
The earliest known signs of popcorn were discovered in 1948 in an archeological dig in New Mexico, USA, known only as the "Bat Cave." Many kernels, a few which were popped were discovered amidst layers of trash and other remnants. The kernels were so well preserved that they would still pop. (This was demonstrated by dropping some into hot oil and popping them.) Carbon dating revealed the kernels to be approximately 5,000 years old! Popcorn was probably and important part of life in ancient America. In a cave in southern Utah, researchers found surprisingly fresh-looking 1,000 year old popcorn. A corn god wearing a headdress of popcorn was found painted on a 1,700 year-old funeral urn in Mexico. Europeans learned about popcorn from the Native Americans. Native Americans brought popcorn to the first Thanksgiving. Popcorn was very popular in the United States from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. During World War II sugar was rationed and popcorn became a very popular national snack. Today the average American eats about 70 quarts of popcorn a year. More Popcorn Poppers
