Celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day is a day to have fun, drink, get together with friends and celebrate all things Irish.

Just don't pinch me.

Who Was St. Patrick?

The man known as the patron saint of Ireland was once an Irish slave. Captured as a teenager and put to work shepherding the fields of his master, Patrick relied heavily on his Christian faith to guide him through the hardships of slavery.

After six years of slavery, Patrick fled his captors for England only to be recaptured once again and forced back into slavery. Once again, he escaped and began traveling and studying Christianity.

Later becoming a priest and eventually a bishop, St. Patrick returned to Ireland. Over the years, Patrick worked diligently to convince the High King of Tara in Ireland to allow him to spread the word of his faith. Eventually he was successful.

After years of spreading the word of Christianity and attempting to drive paganism from Ireland, St. Patrick died at the age of 76 on March 17, 461.

The irony in this is that St. Patrick's Day has become a celebration not only of the faith that St. Patrick worked so diligently to spread, but also the acknowledges the pagan beliefs that he attempted to drive completely from Ireland.
