Celebrating Christmas Around the World is one Way to Experience Peace
I have been very fortunate to have celebrated Christmas in many different places. Christmas around the world, sharing other peoples customs and traditions is the best gift of all. And I was blessed many times with Christmas Fairs in Budapest, Christmas concerts in the Czech Republic and Midnight candle light mass in Romania.
Enjoy Christmas around the world with photos and Videos, without having to leave your home.

Christmas around the World
One People, One World, Different Cultures
The world really is not as large as we are led to believe. Parents have hopes for their children regardless of where they live. Children play, parents work whether at home, in communal settings, or for an employer. Sure we all have different customs, but isn't that what makes the world so wonderful?
This video shows us some of the major cities around the world, all decorated for Christmas. One holiday, different ways to celebrate it. One people, different cultures. One World, our world. So let's celebrate Christmas with open hearts for everyone.
Gypsy Caroler's in Romania
Fun Christmas Activities I looked forward to

This picture was of a group of Carolers that would come around right before Christmas. They would play their music, and even took requests. It's typical to give them a small gift of money, but my first year I also gave them extra. That was it, each year after they would come by my friends house and ask if the "American" was there, me. I looked forward to this each year.
Traditional Romanian Song and Scene of Christmas
The Religious part of Christmas in Romania
Romanians are typically very Religious and Christmas is the 2nd most celebrated holiday behind Easter
I have spent Christmas in Romania, and loved the White Christmas' we usually had. Romania is a very Religious country and Christmas Eve everyone would go to the local church for a Candlelight Ceremony and Mass. Hundreds of people would be standing outside with candles while Mass (the majority of Romanians are Orthodox) was played over loudspeakers.
Afterwards there was feasting and the tree was decorated. A Christmas tree in Romania is called a "brad" or fir tree. I never met anyone that celebrated by giving a lot of gifts, the main celebration was over a big meal and going to see how your friends had decorated their trees. Of course this meant another meal. Romanians love to eat, and I don't think I ever ate so much as when I was invited to someones house.
Unfortunetly, or fortunately however you look at it, the Capital of Bucharest has many new shops and it is getting more commercial. Personally I hated to see them losing part of their culture, and loved the old fashioned experiences.
Christmas Traditions in Romania
Romanian Villages Celebrate Christmas with Old Traditions
Muramures, Romania
Muramures is an isolated area in the North Eastern part of Romania
Muramures is one of the areas of Romania that has not commercialized Christmas. Their traditions are old and mostly religious. I loved this area. It is a little over 10 hours away from the Capital of Bucharest, but it might as well be in another world.
The boys in the Video are reciting a poem. They go door to door, and the homeowners usually give them a fruit or some treat.
Budapest at Christmas
The Christmas Fair in Budapest, Hungary
I have gone to Budapest two different times for the Christmas Season. I absolutely loved it there. All the shops, the outdoor entertainment, drinking hot wine while sitting outside enjoying the sights and sounds. Old fashioned sleigh rides through the enchanted town. Budapest is a popular destination at Christmas because of the Christmas Fair, and all the crafts and unique items for sale.
My very first time there I was like a little kid, just looking at everything and enjoying all the handmade crafts, and the wonderful things to eat. Yes, Budapest at Christmas is one of my all time favorite places.
Christmas Fair in Budapest
Boys Choir in Prague
Prague, Czech Republic is famous for their Christmas Concerts
I attended a couple Christmas concerts in Prague and was totally enthralled with the beautiful buildings, as well as the concert itself. Play the Video, and look at the architecture and beauty of the surroundings. This was typical of many of the buildings in Prague.
Christmas in Nevada
Yes, it snows in the mountains of Nevada

I just never could think of Nevada as a place that snowed. But in the mountains it does, and I spent a wonderful day with my kids on my birthday, which is just days before Christmas in a little Western town. It was really cold, but I still took my camera and set out to explore. I loved this picture, the humor of it.
Christmas in Southern California
Snow is a novelty for many in Southern California

I live in Southern California, close to the mountains. Every few years we get snow, but mostly only the hills and mountains near me get it. Many a Christmas it has been warm and sunny, which never seemed to feel like Christmas to me. A few years ago it snowed, and my daughter and I went for a ride early in the morning. Everything was pristine, and I saw this snowman outside one of the homes.
What would you expect from Christmas in Hawaii
Hawaiian Christmas Tree in a Sea Shell

I was in Hawaii during Christmas time a couple years ago. It was beautiful there. This picture was taken in Kauai in the lobby of the hotel. Everywhere you looked it was beautiful. And a tree in a large seashell just seemed to be the perfect touch for Hawaii.
The weather was beautiful, and after the kids took pictures by the tree we spent the day snorkling. Yes, this was a Christmas to remember, Christmas time in Hawaii.
Giving is a big part of Christmas
Donate to those less fortunate during the Christmas Holidays
Giving is a big part of Christmas, and all the Holidays.. If you don't have a charity to give to why not donate here. I worked with many Organizations, including this one, that helped kids and I know how much they depend on our donations. So, please donate what you can, and if you can't, that's OK too..we all know times have been tough for many of us, myself included. Last year I couldn't give but this year I can.
Donations can be as large or as small as you like, every little bit helps
My Christmas Greeting to You
A short video I made for my friends
I made this Video for my friends, and although it is short, the wishes in it aren't. My message to all is Merry Christmas....if you don't celebrate Christmas...I hope you all have the best of whatever holiday/religion you do celebrate.

- Love these Christmas traditions from all over the world. The videos of Christmas in Romania are beautiful, even when I didn't understand the poem your comments allow to know what the kids are doing. I agree that no matter where you are Christmas is always beautiful; family and friends get together to celebrate and spend a wonderful time. I enjoyed the video with songs and scenes of Christmas in different places. :)
Merry Christmas Kathy!

- Desp...I think a lot depends on families. The tree is decorated like here, with typically old family decorations. I have seen several families trees and they all had lights, balls, other small ornaments. Some people use candles around the house, and I have seen branches of the tree put on a mantle or bookcase with a candle. Anything specific, or a specific area you're looking for as I can try to get the info for you.
