Valentine's Day

We often say happy valentines during valentine's day but what is really the essence of saying it ?. Are we just saying it because we always heard it during valentines day?. Let us try to ponder it out and discover first who was Valentine and why we celebrate his day.

Knowing Saint Valentine

Brief History of St. Valentine

From the story that I had read his name was Valentine and he was a priest that lived in Rome during the third century. That was long, long, ago during that time, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. He didn't like Emperor Claudius, and He wasn't the only one but a lot of people shared the same feelings.

The emperor wanted to have a big army but many men just did not want to fight in wars because they don't want to leave their families. Many men did not signed up to became an army and Claudius was furious. So he come up to a crazy idea that if men were not married they would not mind joining the army, he decided not to allow marriages anymore. Young people thought his new law was cruel.Valentine thought it was preposterous he did not support that law.

Being a priest one of his favourite activities was to marry couples. Even after Emperor Claudius passed his law, He kept on performing marriage ceremonies -- secretly and for him it was really quite exciting. He did the ceremony in a small candlelit room with only the bride and groom and he himself. They would whisper the words of the ceremony, listening all the while for the steps of soldiers.

One night, They did hear footsteps it was scary! But he thank the couple he was marrying escaped in time. He was caught and thrown in jail and told that his punishment was death.

He tried to stay cheerful and in a surprise wonderful things happened. Many young people came to the jail to visit him. They threw flowers and notes up to his window. They wanted him to know that they also believed in love.

One of those young people was the daughter of the prison guard. Her father allowed her to visit him in the cell. Sometimes they just sit and talk for hours. She helped him to keep his spirits up. She agreed that Valentine did the right thing by ignoring the Emperor and going ahead with the secret marriages. On the day Valentine was to die, He left her friend a little note thanking her for her friendship and loyalty. He signed it, "Love from your Valentine."

Valentine believe that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valentine's Day. It was written on the day he died, February 14, 269 A.D. Now, every year on this day, people remember. But most importantly, they think about love and friendship. And when they think of Emperor Claudius, they remember how he tried to stand in the way of love, and they laugh -- because they know that love can't be beaten!

Thank you so much I am so happy that you find it nice :-)

I hope this can help everyone to have some ideas on having a simple but memorable valentines day celebration.

*Go to a pond or a place your valentine like and read stories or poetry together.

*Make your valentine a treasure map that they have to follow and have it guide them to their favorite restaurant where you can go to dinner.

*Take your valentine to the beach or a beautiful lake at night time, this is good way to talk and get closer to each other and it very romantic .

* Enjoy Nature. No matter the location, there are a number of ways to enjoy nature on Valentine's Day. Many park systems and nature preserves often present unique couple hikes, tours and activities for Valentine's Day. It is also lovely to create your own outdoor adventures. Couples may enjoy a winter picnic or an outdoor event inspired by nature. Perhaps even a late night stroll under the stars would inspire a couple to warm up or snuggle up by a romantic fire for the evening's close.

* Be with one another and enjoy once company in a place you both like, joke with each other laugh and have fun. It doesn't matter spending in a simple and in an inexpensive way of celebrating valentines day but what matters most is the moment that you spend time together.

Real Essence of Valentines

We should keep in mind that love is for all of us, for everybody that exist here on earth. Love, is an emotion so strong, it makes an individual complete and it makes the world go round as they say. Our world today is chaotic, our lives are full stress, natural disasters are everywhere around us but still our love to each and everyone lingers on. To our love ones, in order to show attention to our valentine, we do not need jewelry, or flowers, or sweets. Some thoughtful and tender attention is fine, and should make the day a happy and memorable Valentines. We must always remember that the essence of Valentines comes from the heart and it made us unending joy and peace.
