Welcome to Celebration, Florida
Originally, Celebration was conceived to bring to life Walt Disney's vision for EPCOT - an experimental prototype community of tomorrow.
But instead of being built with Disney's vision of modernism and futurism, the designers of Celebration used the concept of New Urbanism - parks, sidewalks, and a residential and commercial space sitting side by side.
All the major community buildings - the bank, the post office, the town hall, the movie theater, and other downtown buildings - were designed by renowned architects.
To enhance the sense of community, most homes lie within one mile of the downtown area with Segway scooters and small electric cars called "NEVs" used to zoom about town.
The concept of Celebration is that it is to be a friendly, neighborly place, drawing its design and its sensibility from such places as Savannah, Georgia, Nantucket, Massachusetts, and Charleston, South Carolina.
