Celebrity Wine Choices

Lady Gaga is one of the most influential musical artists in the 21st century. Not only is she marketable, but she is actually very talented physically and vocally. While Lady Gaga is a well known beer enthusiast (and has a taste for Blue Moon Wheat Beer), she is also a lover of sweet fruity white wines. My sources tell me that, when she is relaxing and looking for a mellow buzz, she prefers a smooth and fruity Chardonnay.

The following is a snippet of her wine list from her latest concert in Brussels:
2003 DRC - Montrachet Chardonnay (France): Approx $3,000.
2002 Coche-Dury, J F - Corton-Charlemagne Chardonnay (France): Approx $1,600
2004 Michael, Peter - Point Rouge - Chardonnay (USA): Approx $500
2004 Michael, Peter - Cuvee Indigene - Chardonnay (USA): Approx $300

It is common knowledge too that when touring in Germany in 2009, she gained a liking for the German wine Gewürztraminer. extremely light texture and apple aroma. Go Gaga Go.

This will come to a shock for many. Like Jesse Jackson on toleration-steroids, Lindsey Lohan does not discriminate when it comes to here favorite wines. Truth be told, she prefers vodka drinks to grapes...I suppose it helps her reach her goals a bit quicker. So be it.

Insiders say she is just as likely to be found drinking white, red or pink. When in public, she is often seen with red wine but when at home or on the road, she often relaxes with the more chuggable white wines. Living in California, she is a huge fan of a local favorite in the region named Helen Turley (originally from Augusta, GA). When she was making more money, Lohan would drink anything Turley-related that she could get her hands on. She even consulted with Turley at one point to help her start a "Lohan Vineyard". Talk about the Fox running the hen house.

OK. Just kidding about the white zinfandel. Nothing speaks of class and dignity more than the big guy in the white house. He has brought a new honor and dignity to the office that has been missing for years. So what does the big guy drink with his 3 daily Marlboro's? The answer is not so simple.

As described in an interview with Esquire magazine, Obama enjoys beer more than most any other alcoholic beverage. When he drinks the grapes, he definitely likes the good stuff. Many don't know that in his house in Chicago, the Obama's have a wine cellar with more than 1,000 bottles of wine...most of it champagne. As he tells Steve Goodman, "I have a weakness for good champagne". I suppose its up there with his weakness for cigarettes too. Can't say I blame him. He goes on to tell Steve that some of his favorite champagnes include the 1995 Krug "Clos Ambonnay" Brut Champagne (QUITE pricey for the pres). On a less expensive end, he tells his interviewer that he has several cases of Perrier-Jouet Champagne. Now that's hope and change I think we can ALL believe in.

This one is truly a favorite of mine. I was eating at a Chicago Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in March of 2009 with my old highschool pal Michael (who now owns an enormous publishing company in the same city). Across the room sat Oprah. The first thing I noticed was that she wasn't eating steak (AT RUTH'S!!!). As I walked by her table, trying mercilessly not to stare at the guy she was with, the second thing I noticed was the bottle of 2003 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon they were enjoying. These beauties retail for about $900. At Ruth's, expect it to be closer to $1,800. Needless to say, Oprah knows her wine (or else the waiter knows how to sell it).

Nothing represents reality television superficiality and silly consumerism more than Kim Kardashian and crew. She's beautiful and classy (at least in comparison to everyone she hangs around). And it seems that she is ALWAYS on a diet. Not so good for red wine, right? WRONG. Kim has an insatiable appetite for red wine and is almost like a crack addict going through withdrawals when she's not on a mega-diet for her modeling. Reggie Bush was apparently worried that Kim had a drinking problem because of it, which many suspect may have led to the breakup.

My sources tell me that Kim is quite picky when it comes to her wine drinking habits. What does she like? Well it surprised the heck out of me. Kim likes the Shiraz family of wines, preferring those with Oak flavors ( I would have guessed fruitty and sweet like most). The oakier the wine, the more she likes it. Kind of reminds of those people who are addicted to eating clay or wood chips. Any ways, I admire Kim's unique taste in wine.

Poor Jessica Simpson. So much talent, so much promise, yet so much ridicule. For one, I like Jessica Simpson. While she doesn't ring of class, necessarily, she does ring of girl next door dumb dumb. I like that.

The good news is, that Jessica does enjoy drinking wine...alot. Perhaps its a trait she picked up from her father, a wine aficionado. When she goes on tour Jessica demands to have

At her wedding to Nick Lachey, she had 2 cases of 2007 Clos St-Jean - Chateauneuf du Pape Sanctus Sanctorum ordered. Not too shabey at $1,800 a bottle. Its safe to say that Nick drank most of it.

Friends of both Nick Lachey and Tony Romo say that Jessica loves the more expensive Merlots. When on the road, the always has several cases of 2006 Hourglass - Merlot Blueline Estate waiting for her. At about $200 a bottle, I can see how this helps her vocal chords.

Johnny Depp, the hopeless romantic and teen idol, has a intriguing romance with French wines (and the French people for that matter). Napa Valley does not impress the Pirates of the Carribean superstar.

During an interview with Madame Figaro magazine, Johnny Depp proclaimed his love for Château Calon-Ségur, a Saint-Estèphe third-growth wine. What better way to put it than the words that came from his mouth: 'It's a marvellous wine that you can drink every day and it's also very affordable,'.

Amen Brother.

He also loves the expensive grapes as well however as he admits 'I like Pétrus [and] Château Cheval-Blanc.' Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is one of his favorite Burgundy estates. He gives us some transcendental titilation with his choice advice... 'with those wines, you reach nirvana.'
