In October the hit-and-run charges were dismissed after Spears reached an out-of-court settlement with the car's owner. The same month she was issued an interim driver's license by the state of California.
She is still facing a misdemeanor count of driving without a license. Her lawyer has entered a not guilty plea on her behalf for that charge. He said a plea was unnecessary because Spears had rectified the situation by recently getting a California driver's license.
The case was continued until February 20, 2008.

UPDATE:

Superior Court Judge T.K. Herman continued the misdemeanor case until March 20 after lawyer J. Michael Flanagan said Spears' conservatorship attorneys do not think she is qualified or capable of entering into a binding agreement at this time and is not capable of giving a deposition or signed declaration.
Earlier this month, a judge placed Spears under the conservatorship of her father and an attorney after more than a year of increasingly bizarre behavior by the singer.

UPDATE:

A hearing is scheduled for July 31 on whether her father will continue to have conservatorship over her. Once that is resolved, the misdemeanor driving without a license charge will be dealt with.

UPDATE:
Conservatorship has been continued to the end of the year.

UPDATE:
Conservatorship has been continued for the rest of her life.
