Celine was born into a large, family in Charlemagne, Quebec. The family was relatively poor. Dion was a teen star in the French-speaking world after her manager who became her husband, René Angélil mortgaged his home to finance her first record. In 1990 the album "Unison" was released and it established her as a viable pop artist in the United States and other English-speaking areas of the world.

Celine Dion first gained recognition in the 1980s. She signed on to CBS Records Canada in 1986. It was then in the 1990s that she achieved worldwide fame with "with the help of Angélil" after signing with Epic Records

Celine Dion's has been influenced by genres of music. From rock, R&B, gospel to classical. Her new releases are not always well received but she is a best selling Canadian artist and runs a runner up to Mariah Carrieis of the Nielsen SoundScan era in the United States. 1998: Honored by two governments in two days: on April 30 her home province of Québec awarded her the Ordre National du Québec, and on 1 May, she became an Officer of the Order of Canada.

She has homes in Las Vegas and in Laval & Terrebonne, (located in the Province of Quebec), Canada.
