Cell Phones Dangerous - New Studies, Old Manufacturer Tricks
Ranked #4,429 in Health, #59,735 overall
Your cell phone could be causing long-term damage
Fact: If you keep a cell phone in your pocket you are exceeding the amount of radiation the FCC deems safe.
While this does not apply to all cellphones, it goes for most popular ones (see some below, and learn how to check your phone).
In addition, new research shows that holding a cell phone to your head for over an hour a day could temporarily disable the "blood-brain" barrier that keeps harmful substances from your brain.
The Fine Print
what most of us missed.

Here's the fine print from several popular cell phone manufacturers (I made it a little bigger)
Apple iPhone - "For body-worn operation, iPhone's SAR measurement may exceed the FCC exposure guidelines if positioned less than 15 mm (5/8th inch) from the body. For body-worn operation, keep iPhone at least 15 mm (5/8th inch) away from the body."
ATT Samsung SGH--a737 - "For body-worn operation, this phone has been tested and meets FCC RF exposure guidelines when used with an accessory that contains no metal and that positions the handset a minimum of 1.5 cm from the body."
Verizon Motorola E815- "If you wear the mobile device on your body, always place the mobile device in a Motorola-supplied or approved clip, holder, holster, case or body harness. If you do not use a body-worn accessory supplied or approved by Motorola, keep the mobile device and its antenna at least 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) from your body when transmitting."
In most cases this basically means: don't wear your phone without an exterior holster. If you do, you are getting more radiation than the FCC deems safe.
What does this mean?
...you're basically a walking microwave.
Cell phones emit radio waves, the same thing that heats up your food. The Federal Communication Commission requires SAR tests to measure the change in internal heat that the microwaves from cell phones cause. Have you ever been told not to stand in front of the microwave? Well you have one in your pocket. Scientists are not completely sure as to what the effects of microwaves are, although they have loosely linked them to increased rates of cancer.Of more concern are reproductive organs. It has been proven, and is now widely accepted in the scientific community that keeping a cellphone close to the body (in a pocket) decreases a male's sperm count by more than 30 percent! This figure can be even higher for the constant user.
Scientists are concerned and looking into birth defects that could potentially be caused by cell phones, as they are kept so close to the reproductive area. This is of most concern for our children (any child that has a cell phone now). In fact, in the UK nearly 11.7 million dollars has been allocated to research this concern specifically.
Many of these concerns aside, it was enough to make me get a holster for my phone, and make my teenager leave hers at home!
Find Out Your Phone's SAR Rating
it's easy!
First, find your phones FCC ID number (note this may be in the battery compartment, even under the battery)
Next, go to the FCC's website on this topic: fwww.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/alternate.html and enter your phones ID
Inform Your Concern
Is Your Cell Phone Ruining Your Brain?
...some interesting conclusions.
A cutting edge study of the effects of cell phones on the body has produced somewhat frightening results. This two-year study found that long-term use of a cellphone can begin to breakdown the blood-brain barrier, at least temporarily. This breakage, would allow substances that normally cannot penetrate this protective layer, straight through. While the implications of this study are not yet fully known, it is most definitely pressing and concerning. Research on the subject will continue with a sense of urgency. On a more optimistic note, one scientist claimed that it may be found humans can simply "cope" with the effects of cell phones. The Report's Conclusion:
"The possible RF-EMF (radiation-induced breakage of the blood-brain barrier), if occurring repeatedly over a long period of time, might become a health hazard because of the possible extra-capillary accumulation of molecules that might cause brain tissue damage."

- There is no evidence to suggest that bluetooth is harmful. However, when you're using bluetooth make sure the cell phone is away from your body.
