Cell Phone Number Reverse Lookup Tips & Tricks

Cell phone numbers are not publicly listed in common phone directories - online or offline. Although this may change sometime in the future, the United States federal government currently bans cell phone companies from publishing phone numbers of their clients.

Below are four tips you can use to be successful in your reverse cell phone lookup goals:

1. Call the phone number back. I know it sounds simple, but so many people don't want to call the number back. If you don't want to call from your own mobile or home number, use a public phone in a bank, restaurant or somewhere else. Call the number and see if anyone answers. If they do, ask who is speaking. Again, I know this sounds basic, but it's usually the fastest way to get your answer.

2. Get on the internet and go to Google.com and type the cell phone number into the search bar. Try it several different ways. It's seems like today almost everyone is online with their own blogs, message board entries, MySpace profiles and much more. You'd be astonished how many cell phone numbers get unknowingly added to Google's index because people publish them online.

3. Phone a private investigator and see how much it will cost to have them run a reverse cell phone number trace. You should expect them to charge anywhere from $70 to as much as $200 per phone number. I know this is high, but you only pay the fee if the search is successful (which it almost always is with a private investigator).

4. Buy an annual membership with a service that provides data to private investigators. There are numerous sites online that give access to sign-up for a basic account and conduct your own investigations. They usually run $30-$60 per year and give you complete access to databases and resources used by professional investigators. One example is the Reverse Mobile Directory. For under $30 per year, you get unlimited access to their databases with over 70% of all cell phone numbers and 90% of all unpublished phone numbers contained in it! Click here for more information.

Well there you have it! I'm sure you'll be successful in finding the owner of a cell phone number if you one or all of these tips. I personally would start with calling the number. If that didn't work, I'd try checking Google next and then I'd move on to the paid options. In the end you might just find that it is not worth the dollars to satisfy your general curiosity!

Another site I highly recommend for social security number lookup searches is http://www.socialsecuritynumbersearch.us.
