Cell Phone Opportunity

I know it seems like there should be a catch, especially when you see how well you can be paid. I'm always looking for a catch in something like this too. But let me explain how they can do this:

Essentially, ICC helps to fill empty capacity available from the major carriers. It's pure profit for those carriers, so they sell these minutes in bulk at a discount. And ICC passes those savings along to its customers.

So call quality is identical to what people are used to. And a variety of phones is offered, from the very basic to the leading edge, both ICC branded and name brand.

So you get great calls on great phones and at great rates -- makes sense to save as a customer, and even more sense to share the savings and earn a residual income!

As I see it, most referral business models -- also known as MLM or network marketing -- have some serious problems to them.

Usually referral companies provide you with products that have retail competition priced better. So they're charging you too much for something you could get elsewhere for less. The extra money goes toward paying your upline, giving us the feel of a pyramid scheme.

But because consumers are absolutely getting slammed with marketing these days, and because so much success comes from word of mouth anyway (even when no one is getting paid for referring the product), network marketing is becoming a more and more popular method of product marketing. It eliminates other costs of marketing and distribution, allowing for the marketers themselves to be paid for their efforts.

As network marketing becomes more the norm, competition will flush out those bad business models mentioned above. The winners will be those who provide totally unique products or services, or those that win on price. In other words -- just as in any business model -- the winners will be those who offer the most true value.

In case you're wondering, yes, there's at least one other company allowing you to earn by referring cell phone plans. I won't name the company, but I'm going to discuss the plan here briefly to show why I don't believe it's a good value.

First, the company provides you with a free cell phone, but then -- like all the tier-one companies -- they make up the difference by charging you more for your monthly plan. So in the end, you spend a great deal more. In fact, this company's monthly plans are priced right in line with all the tier-one plans.

(And incidentally ... it looks like they give away pretty low-end phones, but this is my opinion.)

Second, you have to pay a $50 monthly fee to "own a store" online where you sell the phones. In essence, this alone is about the cost of a cell phone plan, but you get NO BENEFIT from this cost except the opportunity to sell phones. This is in addition to the cost of your phone plan.The extra cost pays your upline, just like any pyramid scheme. (Paying on a membership cost rather than the product itself.)

Third, their compensation plan looks awful to me. Besides being based in part on people's monthly "store" costs, you're paid a matching bonus on the first three distributors you bring in. But what happens if the first three you bring in on your weakest links in the long run?

To know whether I'm working with a scam or a legitimate business model, I always look at the theoretical "last person in." In this model, the last person in would be spending $50 a month on something that gave them no value (their online store). And being just a customer (if that is possible) gives you no advantage over the tier-one providers since the costs are identical. So this is a business I would steer clear of.

Compare it with the competition and it'll take you all of 2 seconds to see what a tremendous value ICC offers -- and again, this value is available to you even if you just want to be a customer!

First, with ICC you DO have to buy a phone or a SIM card from them if you want their cell phone plans. Distributors do NOT have to be customers, however.

Their phones are priced very well, and they expect some to be around the $50 mark -- something you should be able to make back from your cell plan savings in 2 to 4 months. (Of course as with any company, they offer high-end phones that cost much more.)

(The average cell phone bill is $63/month for basic features or $77/month with more advanced features according to JD Power. I expect the average person to save at least $13 to $17 per month with ICC, while some people save $40 or more.)

Second, there is no hokey "store" cost or any other kind of required monthly cost. With ICC, there is an annual admin fee of $30 if you want to be a distributor. There is an OPTIONAL fee of $12.99/month for a replicated site and back office. (Cheaper than what you pay with many MLM companies for this kind of tool.)

And again, you do NOT even need to use their phones or plans if you want to refer them to others, which is great if you're still on a contract elsewhere.

Your upline only gets paid when you and others actually buy phones and use the phone plans. And since the phone plans represent a tremendous cost savings, they are a wonderful value to share with people, whether or not they're looking for a business opportunity.
