Are cell phones really such a great invention?
These days, we have access to phones 24/7 - everywhere. And we can access the internet, take photos, text message and more with our little hand held phone. Excellent! Only, do you really want this accessibilty and distraction all the time?
Anymore, I find that I am more annoyed by having my cell phone. I almost long for the days I didn't have one. Or rather, when a cell phone didn't multi-task as much. And a time when people didn't depend on them so much.
How did we ever live without them?

mulberry says:
I see the convenience and security that cell phones offer. On the negative side they are too often in the hands of people who are either discourteous (talking constantly, loudly, and in the wrong places) or dangerous (concentrating on their phone versus their driving, walking, etc.)

The Art of Communication
Have we lost it?
With the ability to communicate whenever and wherever we want, do we really communicate any better? I have to wonder if we haven't really lost something in the process. Our digital environment has created an entirely new way to communicate. We live in a fast world. We want it and we want it now. Text messages and instant messages have created this new online language with abbreviations that unless you are under 25 years old, have a difficult time understanding. ROTFL or LOL? I am amazed at watching someone typing away on his or her cell phone back an forth while in a room full of people just oblivious to the conversation in the room.
How often have you participated in a chat room or Forum online? Have you seen people get into heated conversation over something because they misunderstood the tone of the writer? Unless you can hear the person's voice and inflections, it's often difficult to tell how serious they are. We are unable to make eye contact and feel how the conversation is going.
I have to wonder if the youth of today is lacking in face to face communication? And I also the wonder about the evolution of the written language with the use of abbreviations and the like. Certainly the English has changed and evolved throughout time. I would love to be able to compare things 100 years from today.
What you do think?
In Conclusion....
Cell Phone Etiquette is the Answer!
- Don't drive and talk on your phone unless you are using a handsfree headset or speakerphone.
- Don't use the phone in public places. Go outside or turn your phone off. I really don't need to hear your conversation in the restroom, at a movie theater, in a restaurant or in a grocery store. Please don't subject other people to your personal conversations.
- Keep your ringtones or ringer to a softer volume. Please don't blast the world with it. When in busy and public areas, put your phone on vibrate and then ring. That way you have a chance to get the call before it even starts ringing.
- Why text when you can call? Sure there are times when texting is the best option and method to reach someone who can't talk on the phone. But if can talk, talk. It's much better to hear the other person's voice and add a little extra to the conversation.
- When with friend and family, unless it's really important or you are expecting a call, don't take the call when the phone rings. Stay a part of the group and in the conversation. Don't have two conversations at once - texting someone while talking to someone else.
- Keep in mind that not everyone is text messaging savvy. Don't text unless you know the other person has a text plan and is comfortable texting back.

- Hiya, saw your post in the forums so I thought I'd stop by. :)
I actually used to be kind of anti-cell phone (I'm an introvert... we don't wanna be bugged, lol), but I got an iphone for Christmas and it's made me a bit of a convert. Though I used it to listen to music and take notes and pictures more than making calls, heh.
Nice lens, and keep 'em coming!
