US National Fiddle Champion, Scottish Fiddle Tradition
She is the only American to represent Scottish fiddle music at the Edinburgh International Festival. She is the first woman to hold the National Scottish fiddle title. In the United States, Rideout is the youngest fiddler to win the US National Fiddle Championship, which she then defended for the next three years. She holds two degrees from the University of Michigan; one in violin performance and one in fine arts.
A Return to Ancestral and Folk Roots in Scotland
Much of Rideout's recorded output is on the Maggie's Music label run by hammered dulcimer player Maggie Sansone, who is featured on Rideout's CDs and who has been featured in the Scottish Christmas performances live, on CD and DVD.
In addition to recording, Rideout also teaches fiddle in Scotland and has adjudicated fiddle competitions at Scottish festivals throughout the United States.

Scottish Rant
Bonnie Rideout teams up with the City of Washington Pipe Band, one of only a handful of Grade One pipe bands in the United States. A rant is defined as "a form of boisterous and riotous merry-making." This definition is adhered to on many of the selections, including, quite naturally for a band based in the nation's capital, the "Congressional Reel Set." They prove equally adept at more soulful material such as "Amazing Grace" and "Mist Covered Mountains," the latter piece having been performed at the funeral of President John F. Kennedy.
