Welcome to the Unofficial Celtic Thunder Lens!
What is Celtic Thunder?
Celtic Thunder is more of a show than a musical group, created and produced by Sharon Browne (the original producer behind the Celtic Woman phenomenon), and has been blessed with the musical talents of the legendary Irish singer, songwriter, composer, and musician Phil Coulter, who serves as the group's musical director (and composer, in many cases!). The five male soloists are from Ireland and Scotland, but Celtic Thunder has been quite the hit in North America. You may have had the opportunity to catch their original public television special, "Celtic Thunder: The Show", first airing on many local stations in the Spring of 2008. Filmed in the Helix in Dublin in August 2007, the show features the five vocalists (Damian McGinty, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, Paul Byrom, and George Donaldson) performing an eclectic mix of songs, ranging from the traditional "Mountains of Mourne" and "Come By the Hills" to international hits such as "Brothers in Arms" and "Desperado," as well as original compositions for the show by Phil Coulter himself. While the solo pieces showcase the wide range of styles of the individual vocalists, the ensemble songs reflect the power of the soloists, who come from musical backgrounds just as diverse as their ages (they range from 17 to 42).

- George Donaldson
- George Donaldson, the sole Scotsman and the eldest of the soloists, has been nicknamed "The Voyager" by the Thunderheads.
- Ryan Kelly
- Ryan Kelly, the "Dark Destroyer", brings in a theatrical presence with a very defined stage persona, and is on a "extended career break" from his accountancy position back home.
- Paul Byrom
- Paul Byrom, fondly referred to as the "Swanky Tenor", is the show's classically trained tenor... as well as the resident comedian and head goof-ball.
- Keith Harkin
- Keith Harkin, whom the Thunderheads refer to as the "Surfer Boy", has had the opportunity to have one of his own songs, Lauren and I, included in the show.
- Damian McGinty

Phil Coulter
Celtic Thunder's Musical Director
"In recent years, Phil Coulter has enjoyed phenomenal international success as a performer and recording artiste. He has sold millions of albums , hosted his own TV series and toured extensively with his orchestra, playing prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, the Nobel Peace Awards and even the White House. On his travels he even managed to pick up a Grammy nomination! ...[E]ven more impressive are his achievements as a songwriter, composer and record producer stretching back over forty... years!"As an indicator of things to come, Phil burst on the music scene in 1967 winning the Eurovision Song Contest at his first attempt with Puppet On A String and came second by one point the following year with Congratulations. ...
"His magic touch was soon to work across the Atlantic when one of his creations The Bay City Rollers stormed up the U.S. charts to No.1 with his song Saturday Night, starting a phenomenon which was to spread around the world, spearheaded by more Phil |Coulter songs. One of his proudest boasts is that he is the only non-American songwriter to have written a top ten hit for Elvis Presley, the supremely emotive O My Boy. ...
"He admits that one of his most satisfying moments was to hear his Rugby anthem Irelands Call resound around Croke Park before the recent crunch game with England. It is somehow fitting that the music for one of Ireland's most historic events was composed by one of her most respected composers. But for Phil Coulter here is always a new challenge..."

Sharon Browne
Celtic Thunder's Producer
"Sharon Browne has been working in the music business for over 20 years. Her management buyout in 1996 of K-Tel in Ireland created what was to become Ireland's Premier Irish Music Label - Celtic Collections, an independent and Irish owned label."Sharon Browne... no longer working with Celtic Collections and Celtic Woman, it's time for a new challenge.
"And that Challenge is CELTIC THUNDER. ..."
