New avatar. I almost didn't recognize you.
  • jimmyworldstar Feb 2, 2012 @ 11:34 pm | delete
A knit octopus would look great, same with a squid. The tentacles would be just a bunch of braided yarn.
  • JoshK47 Jan 11, 2012 @ 5:11 pm | delete
I may have to show this to my lady... she loves cephalopods. :)
  • mihgasper Jan 1, 2012 @ 5:27 am | delete
Beautiful designs. I wonder if is there a market to sell those cute handmade toys?
  • Noadi Jan 3, 2012 @ 6:31 pm | delete
I have a growing collection of cephalopod plushies, some handmade by sellers on Etsy and some mass produced so there is definitely a market for them.

  • SquidooKimberly Feb 16, 2011 @ 8:52 am | delete
I have yet to try one of these but I just recently learned how to read crochet patterns (after 20-some years of crocheting!) so I'm excited to try one soon. Thanks for all the links!
  • GonnaFly Feb 4, 2011 @ 4:30 am | delete
Who'd have thought there were so many cephalopod patterns around! Great resource.

Wow! There's so much to check out here! Thanks for gathering - I love your lens. Don't we all love sea critters? I'm a felter - I felt my knits and crocheted projects.
    Happy Holidays!
  • Wednesday_Elf Dec 3, 2010 @ 9:07 am | delete
I love creating Cephalopods in crochet. My favorite plushies are sea animals. Guess it's because I lived near the 'sea' many times. :) Thanks for this list of Cephalopod craft patterns. Lensrolling to my free how-to crochet pattern for a tiny baby octopus and to my crocheted Sea Creatures lens. Crafts are such fun.
  • JziE Nov 2, 2010 @ 12:10 am | delete

  • irregularworld Oct 11, 2010 @ 11:21 pm | delete
Cephalopods definitely have some of the most appealing shapes in nature. For some reason, they attract the human gaze, as if we identify with their intelligence in some way. Thanks for a very creative lens.
  • Julia_Wildman Oct 10, 2010 @ 3:16 am | delete
great lens, the designs I've looked at so far look lovely, will be knitting one at least for sure!

    Cool Noadi...thanks for sharing...
  • SquidooKimberly Sep 8, 2010 @ 3:28 pm | delete
I never mastered knitting but I'd definitely like to branch out from the boring square stuff I always crochet to something a little more aquatic.
  • awelldressedbullet Sep 8, 2010 @ 2:56 pm | delete
    A perfect lens for Squidoo!
  • bechand Jun 25, 2010 @ 9:34 pm | delete
It never occurred to me to crochet a cephalopod. I might have to try one.
  • Geekness_FortWorth Feb 20, 2010 @ 11:59 am | delete
If I had known about crocheting or knitting sea creatures, I might have learned these skills before. Creatures are way more fun than afghans. I will add these to my list of things to try.

Here in Dread Carcosa and the Lake of Hali, we have no plush cephalopods, nor plush sea anemones (a personal favorite). How might we learn to make them, as we have no sewing machines, knitting, nor crocheting skills?
  • RiverOtterWidget Mar 1, 2009 @ 6:41 pm | delete
    Huzzah for Cephalopods!
  • The_Goblins_Den Feb 25, 2009 @ 2:29 pm | delete
Interesting...I never knew people made stuffed cephalopods. I'll have to give you 5 stars for this one!
  • motorpurrr Jan 11, 2009 @ 11:28 pm | delete
The cuttle fish and nuatalis are awesome. I had no idea that people knited those. I will pass this on to a knitter I know. Thanx

    Bookmarked!
  • Noadi Oct 1, 2008 @ 1:33 pm | delete
First of all there are no dead cephalopods in jars on this lens, only craft patterns. If you mean my Perma-Pets jars, they aren't dead either. They can't be dead because they were never alive in the first place, they are sculptures.
  • Mason Dixon Oct 1, 2008 @ 4:50 am | delete
If you love them so much, why are they dead in jars? Just asking.
  • Music-Resource Sep 26, 2008 @ 7:44 am | delete

I love your crocheted cephalopol plushies. They would make a nice addition to an Ocean Theme Unit Study.
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Aug 30, 2008 @ 3:54 pm | delete
I taught myself to crochet and then knit many years ago, spent many wonderful (and some frustrating) hours doing it. You inspire me to pick it up again.
  • enslavedbyfaeries Aug 30, 2008 @ 10:07 am | delete
I really must learn to knit or crochet! These are too cute, I especially love the squid infant hat. :)
  • CherylK Aug 30, 2008 @ 9:53 am | delete
This is a very cool lens...I don't knit but might just have to learn...the Squid-a-licious pattern is what I'd try.
  • Jimmie Aug 30, 2008 @ 12:21 am | delete
Incredible! Who knew? I guess you can knit and crochet most anything, right?
  • aquariann Aug 29, 2008 @ 11:07 pm | delete
What a neat, 5 star lens! You have certainly broadened my appreciation for cephalopods. Those plushies are TOO cute!

Great lens! My daughter is into everything that involved needles. She'll enjoy this one. A Squid Angel Blessing today! ;)
  • Newbie_101 Aug 24, 2008 @ 3:42 pm | delete
I wish I knew about this when Pokemon was hot because the kids would have loved to have made all the Pokemon characters. Same goes for Hello Kitty and such. Such a great lens. I'm showing my daughters to see if this is something they would like to do. Thanks!

How adorable! You make me want to craft! I think I remember how to crochet. I'll let you know. Now, some orange yarn . . .
  • The_Homeopath Jun 23, 2008 @ 1:11 pm | delete
How cool! I really love the pic of the Dumbo Octopus. Unfortunately, I am not gifted in the yarncraft department, I just never got the hang of it.
  • Margaret_Schaut May 21, 2008 @ 12:25 am | delete
Well, if I could get some spare time, I could make my own Squid in some sort of cuddly textile form. Cute page and very interesting!
  • beachbum_gabby May 15, 2008 @ 9:21 pm | delete
really cool! never tried this, maybe I should now. :) 5 stars Sheryl.

I love 'crafty' lenses. I'm gonna have to try one or two of these patterns. Favorited and 5 stars to you! Bonnie.
  • GypsyPirate May 6, 2008 @ 8:03 pm | delete
I usually only manage to crochet pot holders or scarves...but these patterns are so cool, I am going to have to try at least one. And, I won't hold you responsible if it turns out to be a pot holder with tentacles. I love this lens!
  • badmsm Apr 28, 2008 @ 8:32 pm | delete
OOOO, knitted cephalopods! What could be more festive? Maybe cephalopods Intarsia graphs??? Food for thought...5 Stars 4 you...
