Ceramic Tile Bathroom

Installing a ceramic tile bathroom.

Preparation.

Before we start there are some tools we need, hiring them will be cheaper than buying.
Starting battens,a cutter, the adhesive, some nippers,a notched spreader, the grout spreader, of course the plastic grout spacers and a cloth or a sponge. Of course you will also need your chosen tile in the color and design of your choice.

Start.

Start by securing the starting battens in place. You will use these to line your tiles up. Using a sprit level, make sure they are straight and right angled. Begin in the center of the wall, working to the edges. Now using the flat side of the notched spreader, evenly cover an area of around 3' square with adhesive. Then use the serrated edge to rake it over, creating ridges as you go.

Position.

Position the first tile in place by placing it against the batten. Slide it if you need too. Then press it down. Now use the spacers between each one. Set your tiles across several rows at a time. If you get any leakage of the adhesive, wipe it away with a damp cloth or sponge.

Getting the edge gap finished off.

If it is still does not quite fit and is a little wide, use a pair of nippers on the edge. When you get the right size, apply the adhesive to the back and press it in place. Continue all around the edges making it look good.

Applying the grout.

Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours. When your satisfied its nice and dry, then use a grout spreader to press grout into the joins. Finish off by wiping away excess grout at 45 degrees from the tiled surface with a cloth or sponge. Then lastly, buff up with a soft cloth.

Finished!

Your ceramic tile bathroom is in place, well done.

Ceramic Tile Bathroom,a few pointers on the tricky bits.

The edges.

Now for the fiddly bit at the edge between the main body of tiles and the adjoining wall. It is likely you will need to cut tiles one at a time to fit the space, though you can buy slim 1 inch tiles. So if you need to cut, mark each one at the edge. Place it face down over its neighbor with the edge against the wall. If you only require a straight cut, tiles can be scored with a cutter, then snapped off clean. The tile saw is useful for more complicated shapes.
