Part Time CFOs Provide Financial Services

"Growth" to a fledgling business owner, even a seasoned entrepreneur can be a blessing and a curse. A good example is the success story of Christine Dimmick, owner of home products start-up company, Good Home Co., founded in 1995. Her company was comfortably selling a line of home cleaning and laundry products through retailers such as Nordstrom and Restoration Hardware, reaching $2.1 million in 2001.

During this time, she managed her business through Quick Books until she appeared on QVC, the cable-shopping network, in September 2002. She sold $300,000 worth of merchandise in one night, more than the company made in a month. It was a coup for her but then reality struck when she realized that she had to raise $200,000 to fill the orders and the cost would not be recouped for months. While her business was substantial and stable, her cash flow was something else.

At the time, her stepfather was easily handling the books but the new boon to the company was more than he could manage. He then learned about a company that provided temporary financial professionals for CFO jobs to help the company out of their cursed blessing dilemma. No one knew how to obtain the money or where to even begin to get ready cash so soon.

The temporary CFO with 20 years of corporate and financial experience knew exactly how to handle the problem. He obtained a line of credit to cover the cash. After that, he designed a cash flow forecasting system based on Excel. But the new program provided a way to analyze the company's overall cash flow such as payroll and overhead to show how much operating capital is Good Home needed at any given time.

There are a number of companies that provide temporary CFO services for a number of businesses. But a new concept is making the scene in terms of providing financial services as well as marketing expertise to help the entrepreneur grow their business.

This is a new concept that makes lots of sense, especially to entrepreneurs who are not internet marketing savvy and who still do not have a handle on their financials.  That's the front end and the back end is helping the client with all financial consultation, advice, business planning and implementation. All the tools a growing company needs without paying a high annual salary to one person. Make way for a hot new trend: To hire a marketing company and financial advisor to fill CFO jobs--an idea that works.
