Jung's last work was also his first to present his life's work in psychology to the non-technical reader

"Man and His Symbols" came about as the result of one of the great psychologist's dreams in which he imagined that his work was appreciated not only by psychiatrists, but a greater public. He agreed therefore to write and edit this amazing work.

In "Man and His Symbols", Jung examines the full world of the unconscious mind, whose language he believed to be the symbols which are continually revealed to us in our dreams.

Jung believed that in the act of dreaming, the unconscious mind sent practical advice to the conscious self and he believed that self-understanding could lead to a fuller, more productive life.

Clearly addressed to the general reader, this very thoughtful book, which was completed just before his death in 1961, is certain to provide one with new insights into oneself.

The book is generously illustrated with examples of the use of symbols throughout history.

I first became acquainted with "Man and His Symbols" while studying aesthetics at Emerson College and it has had an incalculable effect on my life as an artist.

Carl G. Jung in a nutshell..

Carl Gustav Jung () (July 26, 1875 ? June 6, 1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist, an influential thinker and the founder of analytical psychology.

Jung's unique approach to psychology has been influential in the field of depth psychology and in countercultural movements across the globe. He emphasized understanding the psyche through exploring the worlds of dreams, art, mythology, world religion and philosophy. Although he was a theoretical psychologist and practicing clinician, much of his life's work was spent exploring other ares, including Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, astrology, sociology, as well as literature and the arts. His most notable ideas include the concept of psychological archetypes, the collective unconscious and synchronicity.

Jung emphasized the importance of balance and harmony. He cautioned that modern people rely too heavily on science and logic and would benefit from integrating spirituality and appreciation of unconscious realms.
