My Chai Tea Recipe Is Simple and Perfect Every Time

I Love This Chai Tea Recipe

Before discovering this chai tea recipe, I was a coffee only drinker. Now I enjoy both. This simple chai tea recipe was taught to me by my friend Amarjit one afternoon. And since that day, I have been a converted chai lover. Not completely converted, I tend to have a cafe latte in the morning and a chai latte in the afternoons.

So, when he showed me the recipe, I didn't write it down. I only watched and remembered. So, this may not be exactly his chai tea recipe - as it the one from my memory, perfected to my tastes.

If you have never had the pleasure of a homemade chai, prepare yourself for a treat. It is nothing like the syrup drink you usually get when ordering a chai latte in a cafe. However, be warned, it may change your life . . . Enjoy

Why Chai?

Long standing Indian health practices suggest that the purposeful mix of spices aids in calming the mind and refreshing the spirit.

Tea Varieties

When I have it, I use Rooibos (red tea) in the Chai tea recipe

Black Tea
Black tea is the most popular variety offering a robust flavor. It generally has the most caffeine and is deep reddish color. The leaves are oxidized before curing.

Oolong Tea
Oolong is a cross between black and green tea, with 10 - 70% oxidation. It has less caffeine than black tea, and is often described as having a fruity flavor.

Green Tea
Green tea is a milder brew with minimal oxidation during processing, resulting in a green color. It has less caffeine than either black or Oolong tea.

White Tea
White tea is made with buds, generally picked before they have fully opened. It is not oxidized and described as having a delicate, soft taste and light color.

Red Tea
Also known as Rooibos Tea or Redbush, is not considered a variety as it is from a South African herb rather than the Camilla Sinensis plant. I have included it here, as it is my favorite to use when making the chai tea recipe above. Rooibos herbal tea has no caffeine, tastes great and has only half the tannin of an ordinary tea brew.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have never had chai tea. Your recipe sounds really good, though, so I may just have to change that!
