YOU BETCHA I'M TIRED OF CHAIN LETTERS!!

Are you constantly getting junk chain letters in email from your pals? Me, too.

Some of my friends are not acting responsibly when sending me forwards. I just might link this lens to all my emails in the future so they will be better email-pals.

Sure, some of the emails are sweet. Some can be really funny. Some might have what you believe is life saving information. But do you really have time to forward them to your buddies? And do your buddies really have time to read them? Bob Stovall has an opinion you might be interested in reading.

To all my friends, please THINK before you hit the "forward". Just stop and think and use proper email etiquette. I am saying this with affection - not malice.

Do yourself a favor: Do Some Research. Find out if the emails are for real or a hoax. I recommend some sites in this article.

For those of you who thrive on chain letter email, I have given you a "fix" by including some examples that might make you laugh.

Oh, by the way, did you receive the email warning about The Bad Bananas?

Thank you. And I hope you have taken no offense. None was intended. Honest.

I Did NOT Forward a Chain Email, So I Will Have Three Years of BAD LUCK!

Hiding in a corner won't save me from it.

Bob Stovall Has an Opinion About forwarding Emails!

To quote Bob Stovall in his internet e-zine article, Before You Forward Me That Cute Chain Email...:

"How do you recognize an Internet hoax? Any email that asks to be forwarded is an immediate suspect. Any email containing a promise of good fortune, or a threat of bad fortune is a suspect. Any story that seems too good to be true is a suspect. And unfortunately, any email that tugs at our heartstrings with tales of sickness and misfortune (especially involving children) has to be suspect."

I agree with him, check out any email letter that meets the above criteria BEFORE you send it on.

Another internet site recommends that you delete any email chain letter--no questions asked! There are days when I do this! Sorry.

Oh. If you do decide that an email is worth forwarding, remember to delete all the addresses of people who forwarded it before it got to you.

Unfortunately I have family members on my husband's side that send me this these things. Now if they were on MY side of the family, I'd simply tell them to stop sending them. But, in the interest of family harmony, I don't like to be quite so forthright with inlaws!

They're invariably "cute" and invariably tell me I'm going to have bad luck if I don't send them on. I think that is why they send them on in the first place. I delete them all.

Haven't been hit by a number 9 bus or devoured by a flesh eating banana yet!

I hate chain emails. I just delete the email. I even Tell my friends that I just delete them but they just keep sending. Why? Why does anyone forward these emails? Great topics.

I usually research the story, and if it proves to be a hoax, I'll reply and include links showing that the story is false.

Pretty much everyone who used to send me those types of emails have either stopped, or taken me off their list. Either way, I don't receive very often now!

My wife gets lots of those chain emails at work and she would often forward them to me to check whether they're real or hoaxes. I use Snopes and About.com which also has a good section on hoaxes. Some of these emails are sweet like you said but I rarely ever forward them, especially if they tell you to forward them in order to have good luck (and bad luck if you don't). That just makes me NOT want to forward them :)
